Why you must prepare

The art of preparation is a very underrated art in my opinion. In anything that we do, anything at all, there must be some form of preparation. The more the preparation the greater our chances of success.

I was recently reminded of this a couple of days ago. I had at the back of my mind that I'd leave the house very early the next day, but I didn't prepare to do so. I simply believed that since I'd been waking up early the previous days, the same would happen and I'd sort out myself and be on my way. Boy was I wrong. It was like the universe was toying with me, I woke up late, I forgot to charge my phone before going to bed and ironically that was the first morning I woke to no electricity. To make matters worse the clothes I planned on wearing weren't ironed and since there was no electricity I had to settle for something else so I wouldn't completely miss what I was going for. Then I spent another 20-30 minutes looking for my comb which had magically developed legs and jumped off the table I usually kept it. And just when I thought I'd had enough I forgot my wallet at home. Luckily my sister was with her purse if not I'm not sure what would have happened.

It just felt like the universe was taking the piss that morning and I can't lie I was very very annoyed. But then, I realized that none of this would have happened If I'd planned ahead. Or maybe some of it may have happened, but definitely not all of it. If I'd arranged and ironed my clothes, and then set an alarm, that alone could have helped offset all the frustrations of the morning.

Adequately preparing for anything gives one all the confidence and the ability to conquer that thing no matter how difficult it is. I can't remember where I saw this quote, but it said something along the lines of "The best possible preparation yesterday creates the best today." So yeah, from now on the goal is to prepare adequately for tomorrow from today. This post is not just about events.

I think this post if actually for me because I only prepare my mind for the day ahead and go to sleep.

On a good day, I’ll have an idea of what I want to wear before hand but on a normal day, I’ll wake up and now be thinking of what to wear.

For someone who used to be very time conscious, I’d say I’ve changed a lot and I need to do better. Thanks for sharing.
