The chase for positivity

The world lives in a generalized order that is expected to be followed by all and sundry. It’s like a form of laid down regulation that is to form the pathway of our existence. In the past, people didn't care much about what others think about them or what the world expects from them, because it is very unknown.

It was easy to get a sense of purpose then, as the bond created is formed from a closely related uniformity. So you are most likely to move with people who have the same value as you and who understand your path and your life journey. Such has changed in our modern world and it seems our past generation has it better, even when they had little. Little ways to create wealth, not even much health benefits, not much technology, less ways to really connect with each other on a global level. One may stop to think, what’s the issue. In the age of social media, where wealth creation is as easy as anything, opportunities and discovery has been at an all time high and we aren’t even hitting the bar yet.

Why then do we have many anxious people, a lot of individuals with mental health issues, more unhappy persons around. The world has somehow made us focus more on what we don’t have than what we have. Everyday we are told to choose positive things, positive thoughts, positive affirmations, this will make us have a happy and fulfilled life. Now you may think, there is nothing wrong with chasing the positive part of life and avoiding the negative. So what is wrong? What is wrong is that when we chase after the positive, it gives a sense that we are being eluded by what is good and we can never have enough. While you wake up to say your daily positive affirmations and also promise to keep positive thoughts all day, you log in to your social media to see a post of a laughing person in their Ferrari and then you start to think, it seems I’m not happy enough or maybe I can’t ever be.

So it’s like the more you chase positive things, the more it runs away from you. The more you feel dejected, the more you think you aren’t doing enough.Considering there is no metric to scale how much happiness you must have to be really happy or positive, it becomes hard to measure up. Come to think of it, can we really avoid the negative things of life? I don’t think so.This becomes evident that if we chase after positivity in a way to avoid the unavoidable negativity, then they come, they hit harder and it destabilizes us. While we all want to enjoy a long streak of positivity, it becomes evident that such is close to impossible. The solution, you may ask me, to this is to not chase after positivity with the mindset that you will elude negativity. But to not give a thought about what others think or what the society feels at large.
