Being a criminal is not a choice

Criminals are the threat for society as well as for the nation, and they are the obstacles on the way of development of a nation. They are the ones who create or cause chaos and don’t allow general people to enjoy a peaceful life. In a nation, there are laws for crimes, and they receive punishment based on their crime. Criminals should receive punishment, and that’s the law, and that helps to control the crime rate and establish peace in a society as well as in a country.

What makes humans into criminals? Have you thought about it at any time? Do they choose to be criminals, or does the situation make them criminals?

In the overpopulated, developing, and poor countries, the crime rate is very high compared to the developed and rich countries. It indicates that the crime rate has a relation with the economy of a country, and the good economic condition of a country is very helpful for a low crime rate. On the other hand, in a poor country, people need to struggle a lot, and they suffer a lot for their basic needs. For fulfilling their basic needs, they need money, and earning money in a legal way is the most difficult thing in this world. But earning money by doing illegal tasks is very easy, and some people choose the easy way. In that case, those people choose to be criminals, but very few criminals choose it for the easiness because they also know the punishment of doing a crime.

In a poor country the job opportunity is very low and very few people get a job to earn money. When young people can’t manage a job, they start receiving family pressure, societal pressure, and so many kinds of pressure. Most of the people try to humiliate them rather than give motivation. It’s a critical time for most of the young people, and many of them go to depression for it. Some choose to commit suicide because they can’t take too much pressure; most of them try to endure it and keep trying again, but among them some stop hoping for a job because their spirit of keep trying reaches to the dead end. They need an earning source badly, and when they see someone earning good money by doing illegal things, they start to consider the way, and at the end, most of them choose the way. They also know that their way is not the right one, but for the sake of money, they are forced to choose the way. In that case, they were forced to be criminals. I think if they receive support from the family and society at that time rather than receiving humiliation, the situation can be different, they may not choose to be a criminal.

In a poor and overpopulated country, the justice system can be manipulated, and the reason is corruption. Justice is for you if you have the power or money. Moreover, the police, who are supposed to be the protectors of people, are actually the enemies of people, especially in poor and overpopulated countries. The police arrest many innocent people for their selfish desires. Some people can release themselves by giving some money to the police, but everyone is not capable of doing it. So, they were sent to jail. The reality is that they are innocent but become the victims of the police's selfish desire. They receive the punishment without doing anything wrong. That creates a mental effect on the mind. After coming out of jail when they think to make a fresh start, the society people start to see them as criminals, and it increases the pressure on them. When they go for a job, it’s difficult to manage a job for them because before giving a job, companies check the background of candidates, and they already have a crime activity even if they haven’t done it. They were the victims, but for that, their careers were ruined just for a single incident. So, is there anything wrong if they go in the wrong way? A single incident closes the way for them, and they are forced to be criminals. They become criminals because situations make them criminals.

Most people don’t want to be criminals, but they don’t want to die of starvation, as they also have the right to survive. For surviving, they are turning into criminals, and the situation is responsible for turning them into criminals. I think providing them a supporting hand and motivating them in their crucial time can be very helpful not to turn them into criminals, and that’s the role we should play if we want to live a good and peaceful life.
