At the beginning of the year, I did what most people do; write down goals and resolutions hoping to at least achieve a bit of them but, it’s march and I haven’t even opened my journal where I wrote those things down.
Because of that, for a while, I have been feeling guilty if I’ll say so and I guess that is how most of us might be feeling right now; a bit underachieving and held back, or maybe that is just me.
I was trying to figure out ways to push myself to start achieving my goals but I have lacked drive and motivation which isn’t new to me so, I was pretty glad when I saw a tag from @samsmith1971 to @dreemsteem's post about the dreemport challenge titled “life is short, start fresh”.
The challenge centers around a bunch of tasks that we have to try to achieve from Monday to Friday and since we are being held accountable for it, it made things a lot better in my case.
At this point, I will be breaking down each task and my journey in this first week so without further ado, let’s get into it.
5 MINUTE MEDITATION/BREATHING/PRAYER
This was one part of my life that I have been trying to improve on because as a Christian, I have found myself not praying enough and being distracted by everything so being intentional this week about it brought bliss to my heart.
From Monday to Friday, I woke up at 6 am and the first I did was pray and read my Bible which was amazing to me, it genuinely helped my overall mood for the day and I loved it.
DRINK 32OZ OF WATER
I feel like this was the easiest part of the challenge because I am a water drinker and on an average day, I drink about 200cl of water which is about 67 oz so I aced this with flying colors.
20 MINUTES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
I have a love-hate relationship with exercise because after losing almost 20 kg, exercise started feeling like just a weight-loss tool for me.
My goal this year was to do exercises that I enjoyed and most didn’t cut it because I didn’t feel good after I did them, so for this week I chose to do an afrobeat dance workout because I love dancing.
I successfully accomplished this for four out of the five days and the reason I missed a day was because I had to travel to another town with my partner and I didn’t want to be dancing in front of him.
I am looking forward to doing better on this next week, fingers crossed.
15 MINUTES TOWARDS A PERSONAL GOAL
Well, I had two goals I wanted to achieve this week and In my opinion, I achieved both of them.
The first was not obsessing over the scale this week and I didn’t weigh myself all through this week which is a big milestone if you know me.
The second was not overthinking which is I always do and I feel like the major reason I have been overthinking these days is due to me wanting to get a laptop so I can start a tech course and since I haven’t gotten that, I find myself fidgeting because achieving this would help a majority of my goals this year.
I won’t lie and say I hit this head on but this challenge helped me actively fight those overthinking tendencies which is a win for me.
LASTLY,
I was able to submit a post every day except on Thursday to the dreemport website and I totally forgot on Thursday because I usually submit pretty late in the day and I was occupied with the PYPT amongst other things.
IN CONCLUSION
Life is about being intentional and I am so glad that I could do this because it isn’t only helping me achieve my goals but it is pushing me to be a better version of myself which is something that I have tried to do on my own for a long while.
I know that I might fail on some days but the best part about failing is getting back up which I plan to do every single day.
