Today 14th of February is widely know to celebrate love. Lovers around the world share gifts cards, flowers or anything else that signifies love. The celebrated colour for this day has been a touch of red/wine or white. Today marks the day we all interprete love in different dimensions, other people may actually find love and for others, get to understand what love actually is, in a better way.

Valentine celebration has also been perceived to have been dainted and misrepresented by alot of people. And it is disheartening to see how we get religiously biased to celebrations like this. Some people see it as a day for lecherous activities, an uncontrolled exhibition of youthful exorbitance.
Well, maybe it is so because the society easily learn from perceived conceptual notions of things rather than understanding the etymological inception of such things.

I'm not gonna bore you with the history, but summarily, legends of early tradition had it that Saint Valentine of Rome was imprisoned for ministering to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire in the third century. He later on restored sight to the blind daughter of his jailer. Other stories talked about the Saint to have secretly wedded Soldiers who were forbidden to marry and was later punished for it.

The theme of each story was always centred on the display of Love out of sacrificial and selfless heart. Then the twist all came in the 14th and 15th Century when the selfless display of love was upgraded (hehehe) to the romantic display of love.

However, Whichever version we currently are, let's not forget the origin of the celebration. I personally agree there is actually no particular day to celebrate love but if the world agrees there is one, it should be done selflessly for the betterment of lives. It should be a day to wipe the eyes of the depressed, to enlightenment youngsters, help the needy and change something wrong in the society. Imagine if this is done at the same time all over the world. I don't know but I believe we would have reduced, drastically, the number of depressed people, given enlightenment to some youngsters, restored hope for the needy and above all mother-earth will just be happy.

Love should cause a positive change and when done globally, it effect will definitely cause a ripple.
Celebrate love selflessly all over the world today.
