Two years ago I switched from my regular toners to a rosewater toner. It was a glycerin and rosewater toner and it was always refreshing. Last year, I wanted to restock but I couldn't find any so I went for micellar water instead. I had seen beauty influencers promote micellar water as a 'toner' and so, I heeded to my Instagram algorithm, picking up the Nivea Perfect & Radiant Eventone Micellar water without thinking twice.
I have sworn by this micellar water for long, using it right after I cleanse my face with my normal facial wash. Then I'd proceed to use my moisturiser and sunscreen. I used it to 'tone' and also used it to take off makeup with cotton pads. It was incredible how quick it took off makeup with almost zero trace in just one swipe.
I started thinking, is something this powerful enough to take off makeup actually a toner? Should I really be using this after cleansing my face? Well, from my research, it turns out micellar water should be used as a first cleanser. The fact that it tones the skin doesn't make it a toner. People would argue that though, but personally, I don't think something with this type of cleansing ability should not be washed off.
It has amazing benefits of which I can attest to. It is super hydrating and does an awesome job in taking out dirt and oil. This makes the skin clearer of course by reducing the chances of acne. All the time I thought it was an actual toner and clearing my skin, all it was doing was taking out dirt and excess oil that could lead to acne.
The Nivea Micellar water is yet another product from their Perfect & Radiant range that I'm absolutely in love with. It is the perfect first cleanser for a double cleanse and it is so refreshing that you can go on with your day even if you don't wash it off (but you should wash it off). I 100% recommend for taking off makeup (it's like magic), and generally cleaning your face after a long day.
So what do you think? Should micellar water be used as a toner after cleansing with a facial wash? Or is it solely a first cleanse?
