Micellar Water: Is It A Cleanser Or A Toner?

Two years ago I switched from my regular toners to a rosewater toner. It was a glycerin and rosewater toner and it was always refreshing. Last year, I wanted to restock but I couldn't find any so I went for micellar water instead. I had seen beauty influencers promote micellar water as a 'toner' and so, I heeded to my Instagram algorithm, picking up the Nivea Perfect & Radiant Eventone Micellar water without thinking twice.

I have sworn by this micellar water for long, using it right after I cleanse my face with my normal facial wash. Then I'd proceed to use my moisturiser and sunscreen. I used it to 'tone' and also used it to take off makeup with cotton pads. It was incredible how quick it took off makeup with almost zero trace in just one swipe.

I started thinking, is something this powerful enough to take off makeup actually a toner? Should I really be using this after cleansing my face? Well, from my research, it turns out micellar water should be used as a first cleanser. The fact that it tones the skin doesn't make it a toner. People would argue that though, but personally, I don't think something with this type of cleansing ability should not be washed off.

It has amazing benefits of which I can attest to. It is super hydrating and does an awesome job in taking out dirt and oil. This makes the skin clearer of course by reducing the chances of acne. All the time I thought it was an actual toner and clearing my skin, all it was doing was taking out dirt and excess oil that could lead to acne.

The Nivea Micellar water is yet another product from their Perfect & Radiant range that I'm absolutely in love with. It is the perfect first cleanser for a double cleanse and it is so refreshing that you can go on with your day even if you don't wash it off (but you should wash it off). I 100% recommend for taking off makeup (it's like magic), and generally cleaning your face after a long day.

So what do you think? Should micellar water be used as a toner after cleansing with a facial wash? Or is it solely a first cleanse?

Haven’t used a micellar water in ages, I prefer oil or balm as my first step cleanser but I’m going to try this just because you swear by it. How much?

See me trying to avoid more expenses this month. God abeg.

Lol. The last I bought was 3200 Naira.

I've never tried the oil cleanser, the Simple one was too expensive for the size.

I didn't know Nivea has micellar water, I use Garnier but even so it's so rare for me because I am often without a make up and going outside. I generally don't like micellar water smell but I heard good stuff about it. What I do normally is applying micellar water then wash it again instead just using the water. I got my mom one since she's often with more make up than me and she likes it. Maybe if I find that product I'd try it. I only use nivea for hand creams and body lotion.

Nivea Micellar water actually has no smell as far as my nose can sense so you can give it a try if you find it.

I think washing off is better too! That's what I do now.

I always see this and been wanting to give it a try but always Skips my mine, I really like your complexion and face smothness, I would have love to give a try but not so sure since I have no complications on my skin or face so I will just mentain it, but will refer it to a friend.

Thanks for the information shared.

I have sensitive skin and I have no issues with this. It's been gentle on my skin so far.

Thanks for reading 😊

Gracias por la reseña, me llama la atención el agua micelar de Nivea y quería preguntarte, ¿Que tipo de textura tiene? ¿Es aceitosa?
Yo uso una de otra marca y lo uso como limpiador.

Hola, @eliigonzalez. No es nada graso.

Thank you!

Micellar water is an excellent product especially to use at night as a makeup remover and to perform double cleansing, I find it very odd that you have found recommendations to use it as a tonic because as you say it is a product that should be rinsed after use, unless the package indicates otherwise, good thing you are already giving it a proper use.

I used it wrongly for long. Glad I found how to properly use it.
