This is the little me being super excited!
When you apply for a job out of your realm of experience...
Recently I applied for a Technology Coordinator position at the Lansing Entertainment & Public Facilities Authority, which runs several venues in the greater Lansing area. I was not extremely hopeful that I would get called for an interview, as I figured there would be a lot of people applying for it. The job is a salaried position with the City of Lansing, Michigan, and comes with a very good benefit package. My education is more in line with a media production position, and again, I was not very hopeful that I would get called for an interview. Imagine my surprise when they did call me!
The interview...
When I went for the interview, to be honest, I could have done better. It was in front of a board of interviewers, and I was very nervous. There were several times that I was at a loss for words and had trouble coming up with some examples that were requested from me. When I left the interview, I was not at all hopeful I would be offered a position with them...
This morning...
This morning I received a phone call from the Director of Human Resources at the Lansing Center, and to my surprise, I was offered a position! The salary is forty thousand dollars a year and the benefit package is excellent. I am so excited to be working in the field, and some of the "fringe" benefits are going to be super cool. The Lansing Center is responsible for putting on a music festival called "Common Ground" and part of my job will be dealing with the producers and artists there. I will get to meet some cool people and do some even cooler things, and I am just super excited about the whole thing.
So Please Forgive Me For Bragging...
But for someone that was an under the bridge homeless heroin addict eight years ago, and someone that has been to prison and jail numerous times, this is a big deal for me...
As Always, Thank You For Reading, And Wish Me Luck!
