So today is the globally acclaimed February 14th, popularly referred to as Valentine's or Lover's day. This is a day for lovers to express and reinstate their love affair or like someone I know once said, ”it Is a day to show love”.
That statement beats me because I feel it defies logical reasoning. If one day out of the 365 days in a year is set aside for showing love, then what happens to the remaining 364 days of the year? ”Should we show or spread hate then?”
Basically, Saint Valentine was a priest who believed in love and secretly married people in love at a time when marriage was banned and upon his demise, folks who he had helped and those who had heard about his selflessness, decided to dedicate that day as a form of honour to him. Over time, February 14th has evolved into something I would refer to as a two-edged sword.
What I mean is that it is being celebrated beautifully and also there's an ugly side to its celebration. I will elaborate with two pointss to buttress my thesis.
Point 1
The beautiful side of the February 14th celebration happens when it is done right or should I say with the right noticed and mindset. Let's not forget that St. Augustus Valentine celebrated couples who were in love and ready to tie the knot.
I believe that when couples go all out to make their spouses happy on this day, it is a beautiful celebration. There's exchange of gifts, vow renewal, full expression of the five love languages and build up of intimacy. This makes or marks the February 14th celebration as a beautiful one in my opinion.
Point 2
On the flip side, when young and underaged people claim to express love on this day, turning it to a day of sexual intimacy affair, then it is an ugly side of the celebration to me.
Today in school, so many students were absent and upon several findings, I discovered that these students have been planning to ditch school because of ”Val”. They were going to be somebody's val and if you
These students are only fifteen years old but this behaviour is already being ingraved in them. How sad. This is a period of their life when they should be finding their onions and giving shape to their destiny, rather it has turned to this.
This students soon will end up with either some sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies or even worse HIV/AIDS. ”You see the reason why I said ugly side now don't you…?”

In my humble opinion, everyday should be Valentine's day. Everyday should be a day to show love to family, friends, well wishers, acquaintances and more.
My day was spent at work with the students. I was asked to enlighten them on the dangers of engaging in pre-marital sex and more.
I also entertained some parents who came for their children's open day activity. It was busy from morning of school resumption to closing time at 5pm.
Despite my busy schedule, I still found time to show myself some love. Who said Valentine's day should only be to showing others love? ”You need to love ❤️you too” 😁
I cultivated this routine habit nine years ago. It doesn't matter whether I was coupling or uncoupling. I would take myself out and spend my hard earned money on myself. Doing this made me feel good 😁.
a recent photo of an item in the goody bag
A dear friend sent in a goody bag later in the day and I got to partake in more goodness from the goody bag 😜.
Thanks for reading and happy val to you all!
