Back in the day, when I was still in Secondary School, I had a classmate named Charles. He was a "people" person who loved to socialize with everyone in class and beyond. His sanguine nature made him very popular and to top it up, he was the captain of the school football team.
He was the one who walked up to me and asked for a notebook from me because his was unavailable and from there, we kick started our friendship. There was no dull moment with Charles all the while we were friends. He taught me how to manage my pocket money by showing me different food combinations that were low budget. Take noodles and slice bread combo for instance. I learnt how to eat it because of Charles but I also saved a lot from my pocket money too.
As we were rounding up classes for our O'level examinations, Charles was already seated and gisting us (his classmates) of his future plans. According to what I could recall, he wanted to become a neurologist and we (his friends) were all happy for him. We wrote the examinations and vacated with the expectation of catching up on social media because he would be relocating out of Delta state to Enugu state.
It has bee eighteen long years now and I have not heard from Charles at all, not even on any social media platform. I have tried searching for him on facebook but to no avail. I even contacted a few classmates and their response was the same. Charles disappeared, into thin air. I cannot tell if he is okay or if he is married with kids and also if his dream came true.
I feel sad whenever thoughts about him come into my mind. I hope he is alright.
