I hear this very very often
It’s safe to say that the person I am right now loves everything about me. But if we’re talking about THE ONE thing I love most about me, it’s my sense of humor. Being funny is just effortlessly easy and smooth for me. I don’t even have to try. This unfortunately might not be good for other people because my sense of humor makes me dangerously funny. Like I-can-roast-you-casually-without-realizing-funny. It’s actually caused me a lot of problems in my social life, but it’s also the one thing I look for in people who I want to be friends with.
I take a lot of joy in making the people around me laugh. And I accomplish this all the time because I am naturally a jovial person, not in very direct ways though. My personality makes it very very easy for me to start conversations with even strangers.
One of the great things about having a good sense of humor is that you’re able to relate to non-direct jokes because usually those give cues that lead you to the conclusion which is the joke. I meet a lot of people, and it’s pathetic that most of em have no sense of humor. They have like 3 brain cells, and neither of them processes humor.
Sometimes, I use movies to screen people for sense of humor; you can watch an entire funny movie with them, and the only times they’ll laugh is when they notice you laughing. They’re not even laughing cos they find anything funny, but they’re doing it cos they don’t want to give you the impression they didn’t get the joke. This group of people are the ones who love Sitcoms - they need someone else to laugh to be able to spot the joke.
To people like that, the only way to get them to laugh in conversation is telling them Kwaku Ananse stories. You have to be as direct as possible about the joke or you’ll repeat the joke 50 times and still have to explain it eventually. I usually give up after repeating a joke for the 3rd time because it’s evident at that point that they just don’t get it.
Like I mentioned earlier though, sometimes, the jokes are only funny for me. This is usually the case when I start roasting people. Normally, it’s not intentional, but every once a while, I subtly roast people deliberately especially with this friend of mine that wants to test me by passing funny remarks about things I say. Like superman holding back most of his power when fighting humans, I usually hold back a bit with my clowning, but doing this is basically you giving me permission to unleash the joker in me, and you do NOT want that cos I'm about to go full offense on you.
