Christmas is one of the most celebrated festivals in Nigeria. This day is significant in the life of the christians and everyone who believes in the birth of Jesus Christ. On the 25th of December, Christians observe this special day by attending a service where they praise God for life and the love of God who gave his only begotten son. This praise is extended throughout the day and people chose to celebrate it in a remarkable way. Some people travel to the village to meet with relatives and family, some travel outside the country to have a better experience of how different cultures celebrate this day, some go out with their loved ones, some go for a retreat, some choose to stay indoors, and some may want to hang out with friends. The important thing is to do what makes one happy.
This day is known for one thing- there was always enough food and meat. When I was little, we were always eager to wait for this special day because we had a new dress to wear and enough food to eat. The only plans we had then was to dress and go out seeking gifts and tips from people whom we believe were joyful. But gradually, all the jingle for Christmas began to die down as one realized the day was just another day like every other day, except the fact that there was enough food, meat, and drink which wasn't something new , and this started to drift one's interest from making big plans.
For the past few Christmas festivals, I only visited my friend and we gist and that was all, no big plans, no new dress, and no concern for the feast and wine. I feel the day can best be celebrated with praise and Thanksgiving instead of the big feasting, and outing. So, I thankGod for life and sometimes visit a few Friends if it is necessary. I haven't made many plans for this year's Christmas festival, I have too much family responsibility in my head that I have a little time to think about how best to celebrate the festival. I was hoping to go to the village where Christmas is often celebrated with a cultural dance at night , but had to change my mind.
This year's celebration may not change except if I decide to take someone out on that very day or have a visitor (which is likely to happen). I prefer to remain indoors as a brother who is single and avoid spending out of my budget( If I happen to go out to a park or an eatery). I may not go out but I'll give myself a good treat at home with some good music on a very loud volume. I'll dance alone in a closed door, eat whatever my heart desires, and sleep. Then wake up later in the evening and visit my friend. What I've always wanted for a festive season was to go to a cinema with a girl I'm dating and enjoy the season watching a movie together as we eat from a cup of popcorn. But that would be for another season.
