My country’s cultural beliefs is centered around religion and traditional heritage. Nigeria is a country with so many cultures ethics and tribes coming together to form a nation. The three largest ethnic groups are Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa. I was born into the Yoruba tribe, which our culture seems different from other tribes.

Personally i see birth control as an important planning every family should have depending on their desires and personal opinions. In my culture it is against a fmaily to put a stop to reproduction. My grandpa gave birth to 9 children and my dad is the the first born. In the other days, large encouraged because they saw it as a blessing the family, whereby the family encouraged the children to work on the farm or work on a particular community or several sectors. Presently the some local nigerians still believes in this mentality and they go ahead to giving birth to 15-20 children With several wifes.
Another major Characteristic to birth control in my country is Religious believe. Nigeria is know to be one of the most religious country in the world. We tend to tak religion over our personal needs and believe. Both popular religion, islam and Christianity speaks against killing of unborn children and encourages giving birth to more babies as a blessing from God to man. This perspective has influenced so many people in the society even the traditional worshipers also speak against controlling of Birth control or even abortion. It is believe to be seen as a sin.

In my religion Christianity, growing up under a pentecostal church, we were taught that people who enagage in birth control are the same thing with people that abort babies. This mentality polluted my thoughts for so many time until the truth was later revealed and I understand the importance of having a birth control in family planning.
I see birth control as an important part everyone needs to have, but when it gets too attached then it is wrong. I wouldn’t want to marry immediately then have kids, i still want to keep up with so much fun of life more at least 2 years with my partner near me. Most people speak against birth control as a wrong action to lifestyle, but i see it as a good and proper family planning, whereby a husband and a wife will be able to have their personal fun in peace without thinking about unborn babies.
The stigma of birth control is that it can be promiscuous to either the husband or the wife. This is one of the reason my cultrue is against birth control, because anyone can get to cheat or misbehave anytime.
Nigerias need to wake up from culturL believe amd embrace birth control in accordance to the law and acceptance from both the man and woman, through this birth control can be fair and not unfair. People should also be educated on the negative impacts it will have on them.
