Altitude and Attitude

It's interesting what power can do to people, especially with their memory. Last I checked, no one is really "self-made," as many try to claim. You don't just make it to the top on your own. Somehow, in someways, you had people around you contribute to your success. I guess the altitude up there is really something to cause people to change. But is that really the case?

Someone I used to think of as a friendly, funny person—the kind of guy that's just himself and people just love him—attained some level of power and no one could recognise him again. He became something entirely different, and everyone's not only surprised but generally displeased with him. And it got me wondering, because I thought we're all not kids anymore.

It turns out, and as we generally all know, people don't exactly change when they gain power, money, or fame. It appears that these resources rather amplify who they really are.

If you're likely to find a way to be kind and generous regardless of how much you really have, the more likely you are to even do more when there's an abundance of resources. The same is true for the other end of the rope. Those that have some shady sides to their personality could have some negative energy amplified if they allow it.

Power hungry. I think that's what it's called. It turned out that this fellow has allowed power to consume him. Forgetting how the very same people that were his friends had always been good and loyal to him, he's allowed power to turn him into a monster before them. It never lasts long, however, and it's only a matter of time before it all comes crashing down unless it straightens up.

I once abused power when I was much younger. I wasn't malicious or anything, but I basically mismanaged dealing with people. My emotions sometimes directed how I felt and the actions I took. I ended up making a whole of enemies. But then, I was only eight or nine years old. I was captain of my class, but people were always looking to beat me up after school hours. How I always escaped, I don't even remember.

With great power comes great responsibility. And what makes a good leader is being humble, empathetic, and wise in making decisions. After all, leadership is about service, and people will react according to the kind of service you give them.

Hahaha, reminds me of those days in primary school when everyone hated our class captain. The thing was, he also had friends despite his enemies and they are the ones that saved him most times, hehe.

You’ve said a lot that I agree with. People don’t just change, we only just notice it late or maybe we never wanted to accept it. Change will never happen in a day, it takes time and effort whether it is a good or bad change. But I’d agree that the bad change happens faster.

You can imagine. They still stood by him?? We sometimes underrate the friendships we have abeg.

How are exams going, Hope?

Yeah. The truth is, he also had a good side that those guys saw, hehe.

Exams are going well, thanks to all your best wishes and prayers. 🥰

A lot of people just need a little power and fame for their true self to manifest; funny enough, the same attitude they condemned before they attained that height is the same thing they will do and more.

Funny, really. Power, fame, and money reveal the real hypocrites.

That saying, your change in circumstances amplifies who you really are, yeah I’ve seen it. But I don’t bother anymore… there’s no need I have discovered. People will be people. But as you said, it doesn’t last forever

Nothing in this world lasts forever. Ephemeral things—that's what short-sided people focus on.

It's quite unfortunate that once people get into any position of power, they forget that nothing is permanent. Law of Karma, what you give is what you receive. This reminds me of a story my boss once told me, he said, "Being in a position of power gives you the chance to bring up as many people as possible, and one way or another, all those help you give out will find its way back to you". If you help someone's children to get education and someday later in life, they're also in positions of power, surely your own children will get benefited too.

There are so many adages that refers to life as a place where you reap what you sow. It's quite unfortunate that people often forget that after attaining the power. Nothing is permanent.

I know a good man who got to the peak of his career. Even way before then, he had always helped as many people as he could. He rather helped people more as he became bigger on his way to the top. He's retired now, but I know it's just a matter of time he reaps the fruit of his labour all these years, or at least the generations after him will. That's someone that was very powerful yet humble and generour, a true leader I admire myself.

And that's genuinely how it should be.

Well i guess change is constant and with hard work and focus come success

I guess...

😊😊

As in ehn... The change people undergo when they come into position of power is astounding. Hell, even ordinary coursemates that become course reps will suddenly start acting like they've arrived. Just to do the jobs they were elected for, it'll be as if you're asking them to donate their kidneys.

It's rare for power not to corrupt people, but if you find them, hold them tight ooo. Because these days, we only have those who will be snubbing us simply because of small power that they have.

Reminds me of one course rep in another department in 100 level. He was arrogant and power hungry. If I remember well, I don't think he eventually graduated with his mates or even in the same department. All the best for him.

those who will be snubbing us simply because of small power that they have.

Brooo... Small power o. Just small power. Na dem sabi

Bro, you nailed that point. People don't become different overnight, whatever they turn out to be is who they really are. They just didn't show up who they are because they don't have the resources to back up that attitude already.

I'm telling you, bro. You'll just be like, "Eh ehn??" Small power like this, everywhere scatter.
