Multitasking in Daily Life

On many occasions, I have found myself multitasking a lot and this is because I want to get done everything at once to allow me time to focus on other things left for the day. For example, when I have to prepare a meal, wash my dirty clothes, write a post, complete an assignment, attend to someone who needs my attention, etc, I multitask to get everything done and most times, I end up making mistakes and I just shift to doing it one by one.

Multitasking is good at one point as it becomes effective and worth it with simple chores that do not require much attention in doing them like when you are trying to cook a meal, then you shift to sweeping the floor while the food is getting cooked, and then after that, you move to washing the dirty dishes in the sink. I see this as something normal because this doesn't disturb the other and at the end of the day, you feel happy coming to finish all at once and still have spare time for other things.


But in the case of being in a meeting with someone or trying to make a post with some ideas you have gotten, then watching the food cooked simultaneously. Let's take for instance, I was making noodles on this particular day and at the same time drafting a post because I was running out of time. One of the reasons we multitask is procrastination. I remember how I procrastinated writing my post before then which I had enough time to do but ignored thinking there would still be time.

As I watched the clock tick and was almost missing the next thing on my agenda, I decided to rush and multitask but my noodles got burnt in the process as I was carried away with ideas running through my mind and the speed I was using to type with my fingers so as not to miss any point, I was distracted and it was the smell that caught my attention. I had to stop to check but by the time I returned, all ideas were gone. It hurt me though but there was nothing I could do.

Women are found multitasking a lot than men especially mothers who are taking care of a child and at the same time wanting to meet up with the project at hand. They are always busy with their two hands trying to meet up with hundreds of tasks at the same time and in the end affects their state of mind because the truth is, our brains are affected when it's trying to do things all at once and at a goal without resting. Our body system breaks down when it engages in different things at the same time instead of taking them one by one.

In the end, our health is affected which causes slight or major illnesses to us. Multitasking is good but not in all situations as some tasks need to be done individually giving it your undivided attention without being distracted. It's just like having a chat with your partner physically and trying to stay on your phone to do some things, one would affect the other and that could be dangerous for a relationship.


No matter what we do, we still would meet ourselves multitasking but what is important is to be able to create a balance, knowing when to multitask or not so we don't make errors along the line. What we must focus on is our brain not to be overloaded and overwhelmed with lots of activities and thinking, else it will shut down and there is nothing we can do about it but relax for a while until we are well enough and capable of doing those tasks again.

Remember health is wealth and we must take care of our well-being. This is why the first thing we should deal with is procrastination as that is one major factor that causes multitasking. Though it is not possible to combat procrastination completely, we can always find ways to do what we need to do on time to prevent or avoid multitasking which could affect our health.

You are right, multitasking is good but not in all situations. And I think sometimes we tend to multitask the wrong way just like the example you set about you cooking noodles and drafting a post...I too do that all the time, and I find myself not getting it right. Why? Because it's the wrong multitasking. Or sometimes, I am eating and I still want to type 😂 Isn't that crazy?

Hahaha. You will end up leaving one for the other. It happens to me too but would have to finish my food first then focus on the other. Lol

Yes. Sometimes, I set target for each task and would do them on time while I have enough time for other things. Multitasking does not work for everyone.

Some tend to focus on things they are doing to the point that they forget to take a break.. so multi tasking isn't always healthy..

Yes. It is not always healthy at all. This is why one must create that balance for it.

I also have similar thoughts like you in case of multitasking. Tasks require continuous attention isn't suitable for multitasking. In fact, if we try to do multitask for such kind of tasks, it's take too much time.

You are right. Sometimes, when we are trying to catch up with time, we end up doing it over again making us waste more time. Multitasking isn't effective in all ways.

Poor noodles, I'm sure it would have cried for help multiple times before getting burnt 😅.

The reality is, multitasking a normal act we find ourselves doing even when we are not conscious of it, the more we grow the more responsibility accumulates and one of the only way to ensure we perform multiple tasks at a goal is through multitasking. It takes discipline to be conscious of which activities to exclude from multitasking for example cooking noodles and writing post, definitely not a good combo😅.

Hahaha. It did cried for help but I didn't take notice because of what I was doing then.
Yes, we find ourselves unconsciously multitasking and even when it calls for it, we need to be mindful of the kind of tasks we engage at once in a bid to not waste much time.

One thing I've noticed is that, multi tasking works well it the tasks are such that can fit in the space very well.
Most times, we miss it out of miscalculation.
