Poor financial management makes one very poor and unhappy. It usually comes from reckless and unplanned buying or spending on occasions, unpleasant to the person.
One lesson that I have learnt is careful planning or budgeting before spending. It have helped me to save more money and avoid some regrettable situations.
One of my regrettable spending was buying a spoiled mobile phone. I needed to have a smartphone like others. I started to save for it from very beginning. I avoid certain things including important events to have more money for my phone. The saving was challenged on many times, I was determined and overcome them because phone is more important to me then.
Everyone that knows Aba, my city very well, will know what happens at st. Michael road. That's our internet and other technological hub in the city. Phones and other electronics are sold there. The population of people there is always threatening and overwhelming. Many people especially youth makes huge money from the sales and repairs. They deceive unknowing and naive people for their dishonest gain.
Many youth there are talented salemen. They can convince buyers into buying spree and even the stolen from them. For any reason, going to those corner shop calls for more careful. One hardly answer to strangers as a safest way to be free from them.
On that fateful day, I moved to the area by bike and the price of transport fare varies. When I reached the gate, I was greeted sincerely and respectful by two young man. I answered and respond to them. One of them asked me if I wanted to repair my phone. I said No! The other now having clue as the other to leave me to his hands that I want to buy phone. Being so naive, I became relax and followed him. I walk discreetly behind him to his stand. I saw several kind of phone. I looked at his place and saw his wares. I changed my face because I needed a phone with higher capabilities for better services like Social media platforms like Hive. He immediately noticed my displeasure as it is written on my face. I told me that their main shop is doing promo that If I buy one phone, I will get other gifts. I became interested and ask him to show their main shop.
At "their" main shop which I later found out that he is not part of them at all. I was shown several phones and at cheap prices with plastic plates as gifts. I was very happy with my new gadget and want home to charge and continue use of the phone.
Unfortunately, the phone can't connect fairly to the internet. I tried my best, it still doesn't work. My happiness became shortlived. I regret my time wasted and buying of that phone as it can't serve the very reason for buying the phone. I returned it to that shop, I did not see that friend and they denied to change the phone but to but another at a replacement at "discount" price. That's another trap but I have become wiser. I want home with great disappointment and unhappy.
Finally
Learn to consult the best shop and product before buying. Not every cheap product, I should buy again. I should know who I am dealing with but accepting their helps. It is poor financial management to look for only cheaper goods that will cause one more expenses because they are not good or of standard for better service.
