Voices Must Be Heard!! 📢

The idea of protests are a lofty one. The people coming out in their numbers to voice out their discontent towards their superior or leader.
In Nigeria, we have been witnessed to numerous protests, most rowdy, some bloody, none peaceful.
Due to the incompetence of our leaders, the discontent of the people are never ending and at such neither are the protests😂.

I've never been actively involved in any protests, but I have seen plenty; protests on a corporation, protests on a school, protests on the government.
Sadly, the ratio of the amounts of protests to the amount of instances when demands are met is incredibly low.

Most times, the protests seems like a waste of energy and resources on the people's part, as the party in charge either ignores them or gives them a compromise that doesn't solve but simply postpones the issues.
Then there are the rare dreaded times when the protests are shut down with violence.

When thinking of violent protests in Nigeria, the only time coming to my head is the Lekki Toll Gate protest of 20th Of October 2020. This isn't the only instance, but this was the most gory. It's also known as the Lekki Toll Gate Massacre.
Peaceful protesters shot at and numerous killed, it was a really sad day for our country, and we really shamed ourselves worldwide.

The most recent protest I've come across is the UNIBEN student protest that happened just last week😂

This is a protest that although has a serious motive, has had me laughing all though due to the numerous memes and caricature substances that have been made from it😂.
The students after enduring a school wide blackout for over 2 months came together to air their complaints.
They shut down their school, disrupting lectures and closing the roads.
The VC has indefinitely shut down the school herself, sending all students home till the lights are eventually fixed.
This is my serious version.
Now watch this small musical and animation video that'll show the comedic and satirical version.

Protests are just one of the ways that the public can raise their voices and air their complaints to oppressive use of power.
Its a necessary tool although not often successful.
I do promote peaceful protests though, yet the fact is that it's easy for one to ignore people who aren't making any noise or causing any problems. Yet if the protesters do get violent to help increase the volume of their voices, those who are protested against can use greater violence to deafen or mute those voices.

A protest would work well in a country where the government actually listens. Sadly there's hardly any country that's like that.

Protests can be a pain in the bloody arse. If you side with the protestors then you don't mind them. If you don't then they a fluffing pain. Blocking the roads making you late for work, getting your pay docked. Yeah they can gtf.

😂😂😂
I think the blocking of roads is meant to be annoying 😂

I like seeing them being hauled off by members of the irate public.

The Lekki Massacre.
I hate to see that the people that made the order are now the people in power and people actually voted for them.

We are not serious in this country

😂😂

Protesting is good especially peaceful one but at times, some of the protesters usually see it as a way of destroying things which isn't good. Also the molestation of the uniformed men on protesters isn't good too.

I can hear the voice of a woman in one of the videos saying that the students should go home and enjoy 20 hours of electricity. If the voice is that of the VC, I can perceive arrogance and insensitivity. These are the reasons why protests don't achieve any result. Their hearts are hardened.

#dreemerforlife

Well the students weren't really subtle in voicing their discontent 😂😂

I can understand the VC 😂😂

Yea. I think I agree with that.

Naija don tey wey e comot for country
Peaceful protests are never peaceful here because our youngboys who are used to penetrate those evils are just drunk with money they will be paid and pay no attention to the betterment of their country people
It's a shame indeed

Honestly, when the government in power doesn't care about the people they are governing, then a protest instead nothing but a waste of time, energy and resources. It becomes worse when people lose their lives in the process.
I'm glad the student's protest pushed the VC into action. I can't even imagine a blackout for more than two months!! How on earth did they expect the students to power their phones and PC's??

#Dreemerforlife.

Well the school was indeed working on it. The story is more complex than I let on.
The power grid of Benin cut off the light to the school, calling an exorbitant fee and taking only full payment.
That was the main issue.

Protest in Nigeria have a way of always taking the wrong turn, to an extent I take it as a complete waste of time because our government have become immune to the threats of protest. We need to consider another approach.

Protest is made to draw the attention of our leaders but unfortunately they don't care, rather innocent people lost their lives on the process and the problem keeps lingering
