The world has seen and has been blessed with wonderful devices, gadgets, technological innovations, and several others in the past that are no more in present day, and looking back at some of these innovations, I can't help but say wow as I reminisce on the experiences I've had with them that made those years a pleasurable one for me. Back then, I've got a whole lot of such that I loved and would have loved to have a taste of once again, and in this article I'll be talking you through some.
One of the first tech innovations I've come to know draws back to several years ago with Glo Africhat; this is one of the first chat-based technologies that came out around the same time as Facebook, although unlike Facebook, Glo Africhat can be done without any data subscription, and you can literally interact with it and chat with anyone across Africa regardless of your type of device; even someone using a device that has no internet capability can use it.
Being an introvert with little or no friends, Glory Africhat was my first gateway to making friends freely and meeting people across the continent, although it's more popular that you'll most likely meet people of the opposite gender, but that was fine by me because as of then I hadn't even summoned the courage to woo a lady, and with Glo Africhat I was able to make friends within the country and outside it.
The Glo Africhat is a text-based chat technology that allows you to pick specific features you'd like to meet in a friend from your mobile phone. Even the small touch light phone can access it. Despite how way back this was, you can literally choose the location where you want to see people and, as well, choose the age grade, and with that, you'll be presented with several people you can chat with in that place.
Another thing that made this impression was the fact that chatting and communication are done for free. Yes, you read that correctly; we literally just need to start each day with anyone for free, although they later introduce a subscription fee of maybe 20 naira worth of airtime, and after that you can chat for as long as possible with both old and new friends.
Made lots of friends on this technology introduced by Glo back then, and some of those are still my friends to this day, as we've evolved from mere chatmates on Glo Africhat to sharing contact with one another and becoming friends on other social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and the likes when Glo Africhat folded.
It's actually a very intriguing innovation. I love back then because of the opportunity I got in making friends from different parts of Africa, and remember from this particular chat was where I met two people with whom we're now the best of friends, from Africhat to gaining admission into the same university, meeting up, and several other shared experiences that follow, all thanks to this mind-blowing technology.
With the world of technology evolving, I don't think a text chat would do much in our present day, because unlike Glo Africhat, where you only see the name, age, and location of the person you're chatting with, present-day technology allows you to see beyond that, where you can literally see their pictures, videos, and previously uploaded information about themselves, so bringing up Glo Africhat won't really be ideal.
Although it can make a wave if being improved on to allow pictures and made into an app and just only required a data subscription, I believe with that it'll be among the top social media platforms where you can communicate with people from different parts of the world, because recent popular apps that allow such charge huge weekly payments subscriptions to allow communication.
