The deserts aren't getting smaller, and we (as humanity) aren't exactly slowing down our planetary conquest. In re the Malthusian thought: I kind of agree that we will ultimately supersede our resources on this planet but, better resource management should be the focus and is where I break off of that philosophy and I'm hoping we conquer the stars way before that happens.
