## VIDEO - CARACAS EN NAVIDAD

Hola Hivers,

Una de las cosas que más se extrañan de Venezuela cuando vives en el exterior es la alegría, la magia y ese ambiente festivo que nos caracteriza como pueblo y que se manifiesta en las diferentes localidades del país, especialmente durante las navidades.

Las plazas y arboles tienen adornos y luces brillantes, exposición de arboles de navidad, santas y nacimientos de gran dimensión en los espacios públicos y centros comerciales, gaitas y aguinaldos, que engalanan la ciudad desde mediados del mes de noviembre. Por mi temporada de trabajo larga en la cocina, pude apreciar mucho más detalladamente algunos lugares y registrarlos en Enero.

En Argentina, en cambio, específicamente la ciudad de Buenos Aires no luce tan festiva en esta época. Resulta que es tiempo de verano – hace un calor insoportable 🥵- y fin de la temporada escolar, por lo que a partir del 20 de diciembre suelen tomarse las vacaciones, en su mayoría en el exterior, buscando “el fresquito” o en la costa Argentina, que tiene aproximadamente 4.500 kilómetros de playa; ¡Con agua helada! 🥶

Entonces, la ciudad luce un poco solitaria y apagada. No es costumbre adornar edificios y residencias, instalar luces de colores o los árboles de navidad de gran dimensión en espacios públicos. A excepción de la avenida 9 de Julio que luce brillante y espectacular todo el año.

Otra tradición muy venezolana son las gaitas, las misas de gallo o de aguinaldo y los cantos navideños que se escucha en las emisoras de radio o en las calles. Eso también refleja la alegría que nos caracteriza como pueblo. En este video te muestro parte de mi recorrido por la ciudad con la magia de la navidad.

VIDEO - CARACAS AT CHRISTMAS

One of the things you miss most about Venezuela when you live abroad is the joy, the magic and the festive atmosphere that characterizes us as a people and that is manifested in the different localities of the country, especially during Christmas.

The squares and trees have decorations and bright lights, exhibition of Christmas trees, santas and nativity scenes of great dimension in public spaces and shopping malls, bagpipes and aguinaldos, which adorn the city since mid-November. Because of my long working season in the kitchen, I was able to appreciate some places in much more detail and record them in January.

In Argentina, on the other hand, specifically the city of Buenos Aires does not look so festive at this time of year. It happens to be summer time - it's unbearably hot 🥵- and the end of the school season, so from December 20 they usually take their vacations, mostly abroad, looking for "el fresquito" or on the Argentine coast, which has approximately 4,500 kilometers of beach; With ice cold water! 🥶

So, the city looks a bit lonely and dull. It is not customary to decorate buildings and residences, install colorful lights or the large Christmas trees in public spaces. Except for 9 de Julio Avenue, which looks bright and spectacular all year round.

Another very Venezuelan tradition is the "gaitas", the "misas de gallo" or "aguinaldo" and the Christmas songs that can be heard on the radio stations or in the streets.
