MITSUBISHI GR18VFT - The best AC to beat the summer but..

Tropical Inverter AC that would work even in 52 degree Celsius

Summer is the toughest time for us and thanks to all our contributions ( pollution, concrete, reducing forest) to make it tougher each day, the temperature easily crosses 45 degree Celsius which happened couple of days before. We had an old Voltas AC that has been running since last 12 years, but unfortunately, it's not able to cope up with this much heat. So we decided to go for a new one this time and deciding the model is the biggest hurdle. There are so many factors like budget, brand, durability, service availability, power consumption etc but in my opinion, efficiency is the most valuable factor - best cooling with less power consumption. After taking opinion from several people, I decided to go ahead with the GR-T series from MITSUBISHI Electric - my first experience with the company. The GR-T series is empowered with Tropical inverter technology suitable for tropical regions and is the better version than GR series that comes with advanced inverter technology. Even though the GR series is perfect for Indian climatic conditions, I decided to go ahead with GR-T because these are long term investments. Five years down the road, 50 degree Celsius would be normal in summer. The price difference between both is only 5k, so why not have a better model that would work long term.

The 1.5 ton GR-T model costs 65000/- and GR model is 60k, but the story does not end there.

Mitsubishi still does not have service network in my place and operate on SSD ( Sales, Service, Distribution) model. The contact was obtained from a known source so I transferred the money and they came the next day to fit it.

Fitting was not easy and the person was definitely brave apart from having the skill. However, we still need to inspect and advise what we need, because once fitted this cannot be changed easily. So I asked them to fit on a bigger bracket as it would be more convenient. They had brought a smaller one, but I insisted so they got one and after the finally fitting, they also agreed that it was a good decision.

The entire day, I was with them - we have to spend a day to enjoy it for 10 years.

Looks elegant ? It is definitely different than any other. On their advice we also fitted a mini stabilizer so that any power fluctuations can be dealt with, without directly affecting the AC. I have already lost a Bose sound system for power problems, and there is nothing you can do about it (except taking care of your equipment yourself) even though the fault is not ours.

Once they operated the AC, the cooling felt different than any other AC - the room was chilled in just 15 minutes even though the default temperature set is 24. We were so happy and overwhelmed but...they asked for all the fitting charges before leaving, which was another 17k. I was a bit shocked to hear that, but they said, everything is chargeable extra as this is a fully imported model. Usually all other brands give fittings and installation free, but you have to pay for everything in this brand. So that made the total cost to 82k - quite expensive which is almost the cost of two ACs. So that is the downside of it - but they said it will compensate the price in few years.

Here is the energy efficiency, its a five star model, but its so chilling that, it runs for very less time and then just maintains it. So may be the cost will be realized in 4-5 years and it comes with a standard 10 years warranty on compressor and 5 year warranty (both replaceable) on inverter.

If you are planning to buy an AC and can afford, I would recommend to go ahead with this or the GR model - because this is simply the best one. You will definitely get the money back within the guarantee period. Here is the product details including specs and other things, should you need to review all details :

I always think about getting a sometime because the level at which the heat is going these days is far beyond control. This device is a great one and it would serve it's purpose considering the volt and also the stabiliser used with it. Good one.

Those split units are nice. My mom and dad had the opposite issue. They needed one that could still work when the temperature dropped quite low without it freezing up. I have some similar models to theirs in my server rooms for the winter.

They needed one that could still work when the temperature dropped quite low without it freezing up.

So an AC and a heater at the same time.

Yes, that is what my parents have. The one for my server room is just AC.

I like the air you bought, it looks of excellent quality, you will undoubtedly cope with the very hot days
Have a beautiful afternoon @sanjeevm

We often cross 40°C here this summer. That air conditioner will be perfect.

No experience with Mitsubishi products as I use Voltas and it's pretty good. I have been using it for the last 5 years with no problem. This is 5 star so you will save good on electricity bills.

My previous one is Voltas and its running since last 12 years ( we fitted in another room). But the current models do not have same built, they have compromised in quality for price competition.

12 years is a long time. The one I have is good on built quality but I surely see a compromise on their service. I requested a service visit on 31st March and they visited after 7 days in the metro city. They might lose the market share if they continue to do this as other brands are doing well.

Nice. I recently bought GR22VF model of Mitsubishi Electric 1.9 ton for drawing room and it costed me around 65k plus installation charges.

Performance wise quite happy, even though the cost is way higher.

65k dollars for an AC??

safety on work btw on that picture 😂

65k INR

No safety needed :) they are built strong.

Summer is usually very hot but I hope the AC you got cools the home and is enough to make you not feel the heat
I also love how you used the stabilizer with it too

I think the climate is going to continue to get worse as time goes by, which is why you have made a very good investment to deal with the high temperatures. You have acquired excellent equipment.
What a great installation job the technicians have done.
Enjoy it very much dear friend @sanjeevm

The heat really has been very strong this time around. In the Philippines, temperatures are also reaching 46 degrees Celsius, while also being very humid which exacerbates the issue. That air conditioner looks very powerful, and I'm glad you got it to fight the heat. Take care over there, and drink lots of water.

drink lots of water

8-10 liters is my usual.

Five years down the road, 50 degrees Celsius would be normal in summer.

Quite possible because of anthropogenic emissions.

Adaptation and mitigation is key if we genuinely want to address climate change and it requires a rising consciousness in society, in other words, it has to be a bottom-up approach.

What we need today is sustainable cities, green cities, and smart villages as well.

We were so happy and overwhelmed but...they asked for all the fitting charges before leaving, which was another 17k.

What 17k, almost half the price of a 1 ton AC! That's insane...and that too for fitting only.

If you are planning to buy an AC and can afford, I would recommend to go ahead with this or the GR model - because this is simply the best one

Have you ever used Hitachi AC sir? If yes, what's your experience.

I hope u r being able to dehumidify the sticky weather of BBSR by using this AC.

Thank you.

Jai Jagannath

I have one Hitachi at home in one bed room, and another in my in-laws house, they are good, but nowhere comparable to this in terms of performance. Coming to budget, they are better :) so need to decide accordingly. If budget is there, then go for this, because over long term, it will pay off.

Okay. Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback.....🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

😉🥶 some cool looking units.

wow, that guy was brave indeed. :P
