Rearing poultry birds has always been a thing in our family but we've only been into rearing local birds, easier to train since you don't have to do much of the feeding you just let them out of their cage in the morning and you will see them taking care of themselves.most people who own local poultry birds only provide them with shelter and even the shelter is nothing close to the kind of shelter that is provided for the hybrid birds , adaption is also easier with local birds than with the hybrid.
Then why do some people now prefer hybrid than local birds
The first reason most people around my place give is the time it takes for the hybrid poultry bird to mature, although they are both poultry birds one kind tends to mature earlier than the other a matured cock might take a year or more between birth and maturity while the hybrid birds can take nothing less than four month that's if you want it to have properly matured , safety is another thing when we first moved to a new place ten years ago we can with more than twenty local birds but with few weeks lots of them where already missing, when they go out some don't come the male cocks especially now their cage is almost empty but with hybrid there is less of loss and quick growth period and some farmers are using this as an advantage to make terrible decision that's
putting lives at risk, the use of growth enhancement mechanisms by farmers in other to meet up to the huge demand for this birds means that our health has generally been put aside. Am trying my best not to be tempted by any of this cause safety has to come first and watching what goes into our mouth as food and water is the first step to hygiene and public health safety.
