Greetings, fellow Hivers! I am thrilled to share my journey of raising 25 day-old broilers in preparation for the upcoming Christmas festivities. My objectives are clear: to provide for my family, share the joy of giving by presenting some as gifts, and make a little extra income during the festive season.
One challenge I've encountered is the cost of building a proper cage or coop to house my broilers. I've chosen to keep them in a spare room within my apartment to avoid unnecessary expenses that could impact my potential profits. To ensure their comfort and well-being, I've designated a quiet corner in the room.
Understanding my limitations, I plan to sell a significant portion of the broilers well before Christmas, around the 6 to 8-week mark, to a fellow farmer with better housing facilities. This arrangement ensures that they receive the proper care they deserve while allowing me to manage a few for my family's consumption and gifting during the festive season.
Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for my broilers is of utmost importance. To address this, I've lined the room's floor with white, sturdy cardboard that can be easily replaced when soiled. To keep the birds in check, I've used leather wrap demarcations and placed white kegs for additional support.
To provide a strong start for these young broilers, I've introduced them to high-quality grower ultima plus feeds, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrition. To bolster their well-being and alleviate any stress they may experience during transportation from the hatchery to my home, I've offered a water solution containing Vitamin B complex and glucose.
This is just the beginning of my poultry farming journey, and I'm excited to see how it unfolds. If everything goes well, I might consider raising birds for other festive periods as a side hustle.
Thank you for joining me on this adventure, and I look forward to sharing updates and insights along the way!
