Grain Run, Happy Farm, Life Vests, Cabbage and Pea Harvests, UEFA, Garlic, Alpaca - Tuesday

It was quite the sun rise yesterday morning as I was on my way to town for grain. The clouds were over Mt Spokane and the sun was trying to blast through from behind.

I got to the brewery and had 4 and a tiny barrel to load.

One barrel had been sitting for a week as I forgot to pick them up after my sailing trip and had some mold on top. Nicely the barrels are oxygen free below the top 6 inches so the rest of the barrel stays good or at least not moldy. The bypass is open again on the south end so no having to go through Hillyard proper to get on it, thankfully.

I got home and parked the trailer for a while. It was about 8am when I headed out to empty it and the birds were covering the entire trailer. They didn't really want to move even as I drove the trailer across the farm to back into the sheep pen. I nearly backed over a bunch of them. I shoveled all the grain out and spread it around good so they wouldn't be fighting over any of the grain.

After unhooking the trailer I headed back down to North 40. They have a sale that started yesterday and the life vests are 20% off. I got a pair of these for us which are WAY WAY nicer for paddling. There is mesh on the lower back so won't be pushed forward in the seat by the foam of the other vests.

J had asked if he could help me harvest cabbage so I got him and we headed out to do just that. The first was the Emiko Asian cabbage and I got 5 heads that weighed 11.25 pounds.

So many leaves have to be removed to get down to the good cores.

Then 10 of the Katrina and Tiara cabbage that weighed 11 pounds in all. Both batches went into the cooler.

Then close to mid day I headed out and picked another 3.75 pounds of peas. There were more of the snow peas this time as they are starting to come in better now.

The Euros are on still and holy balls did Austria get thumped by Turkey. Just awesome to see the upset! Then in the evening Columbia and Brazil match for Copa was insane with Columbia tying but winning the group.

I wandered along the creek to check on the flow and found the flowers are blooming.

The garlic has a few that needed to be dug as the tops have turned, they aren't very big which makes me hope the rest will be bigger...

@stryeyz coworkers are taking some of the cabbage so I bagged it up in the afternoon and left it int the cooler and will grab them in a bit so she can take them in for them to have for the 4th.

We have inbound heat with 100+F next week so I went and refilled all the animal waters. The alpaca LOVES the wading pool. She walked over to it and plopped her front end down in the water and just stayed there for a good 10+ minutes while I filled waters.

The boys made dinner and once the Brazil/Columbia match was over I headed out to soak for about an hour.

About midnight a thunderstorm rolled through and DUMPED, this morning there was .2" in the gauge. It's another foggy morning but it will burn off fast and get to the mid 80sF today. I need to try to get 3 more bales of hay, pull weeds, tie cucs and tomatoes in the greenhouse, if it dries out I should cut grass, and then try to figure out something for dinner this evening.

Your harvests look great and I'm a little jealous of your peas lol. I'm in Florida and we grow the cool weather crops over winter. This year my cabbages did well, but the peas didn't do anything. Next time!

I honestly wasn't expecting the peas to do quite this well but it has taken until now to get hot so I had good time for them to get big enough. I'm just hoping the 100+ next week won't trash them, I may have to toss row cover over to at least protect against the direct sunlight.

In this way, whenever there are clouds above the sky, the view is much more special and beautiful.
