Yesterday morning I finally got out to the garden around 10 am thanks to the cold temps. I needed the sun to warm the ground a bit before I got started on the plastic. I was looking at the raspberries and noticed that they are spreading like wildfire now. There is a huge amount of fresh growth popping up, finally after about 5 years of them being in the ground.
Last year the closer one really took off and it looks like it is really well established now. I can't wait to see how huge the bush gets this year.
I got a roll of plastic from the garden shed and unrolled it next to my grid. I cut the roll in half and rolled half up and got it back to the shed while the the piece got flaked out and slid under the grid. I weighted the edges all down and got the wheel.
Nice and easy I had the rows all marked. The wheel made this task a cinch and all I have to do is remove the screws from the wheel, put the dial back on, and it is back to regular use.
It took a bit to get the string line all rolled back onto the roll. I was trying to devise a way to use my drill to make it faster but by the time I had it figured out I was just about done rolling the string. I then folded the plastic up and got it with the 2 other pieces. The stakes got removed from the ground and I was able to get the trailer hooked up for one last run through the garden.
I backed the trailer across the main garden and into the cool garden.
I wanted to get as many of the larger rocks as I could which were largely on the bottom of the wall. The dolly came in SUPER handy so I was not carrying each rock to the trailer. It was a lot easier too load them on the dolly and roll the dolly over.
I could likely use the wheelbarrow as well but it's tire was low and the dolly is easier to use for the larger rocks. I will use the wheel barrow for loading smaller rocks later.
I have cleared all but a small section of the rock wall now. I have one more trailer load left to remove but that is going to have to wait until the wood is split in the inner yard.
This was the full load that went out to the new wall.
I only had to get out of the gate to start placing the rocks. I had made it past the mailbox already so no it was just trying to make it to the gate.
Which I just was able to. It is a bit contrived seeming at the moment.
But that is largely because it is just the base course of the wall and has no height to it yet. I ended up having exactly enough rocks to make the distance to the gate. The rest of the rocks left in the yard will do well to fill in this area and add to the height. Along with the plethora of rocks from the rest of the property the wall will be seeing a gradual increase all summer long.
I had placed the last rocks and then unhooked the trailer when the first storm cell of the day came trundling through. This one dropped sprinkles and a bit of frozen stuff before racing off eastwards.
I called it. The garden fence is now up and no more trailer through the garden. I am quite pleased with the gate, my attachment of the fence to the right side works like a charm and made it quite easy for me to get the fence back in it's correct place.
I did a bit of consolidating of the rocks in the yard and tried to get the pile all sorted a bit to smaller and larger.
We had two nectarine trees in the yard that were planted the same time as the cherry trees. The cherries have done well with one doing amazing while the nectarine trees have largely languished and done really poorly. I decided it was time to take them out.
I just started yarding on the trunk of the tree and got it wallowing in the hole. I grabbed the axe and hacked the top of the tree off which allowed me more room to roll the trunk around until the roots busted free and I could haul it out.
I piled the rocks from the ring and pulled up the irrigation line.
I then repeated this for the other tree which came out a bit faster. The rocks all got piled and will go out on the trailer load or in the wheel barrow.
The afternoon was a constant stream of storm cells coming through. I could watch across the valley through the trees and see the wall of white coming our way. One of the great things about spring storms like these is the bright sunshine that explodes after the cell has past. The boys love the sunny rain too.
It's playoff hockey time and the games are pretty good. Some really chippy games and some serious hits being doled out. Tonight the Kraken play again and hopefully they whoop the Av's butts.
I finally completed my collection. These are my favorite pencils. I have loved the Pentel mechanical pencils since I was a child but only ever had the .5mm black ones. It wasn't until about 2012 that I found the new design and was able to get the .3mm, .5mm, and .7mm. Yesterday I got the .9mm and I love the way it writes.
The skin healing continues and as it continues to clear I am getting that much longer at a time in the hot water. After my days of boulder wrangling it is rather needed.
Today will/should be the start of tilling and I will setup my camera to get a time lapse, as long as the soil is ready. I have to work through the hole punching options, Man Utd plays Sevilla mid day, it's 4/20 and I was up for the morning session and will be sure to hit the afternoon and all in between, and as much as I don't want to I have to shovel out the chicken coop and haul it off to the back of the property.
