Safety Rail, Gardner Snake, The Farm, Buzzing, Upham Bar, Family Time - Tuesday

in #hive-114308last month

Yesterday morning I was thinking that we would be heading out earlier than we ended up leaving but as the morning went on I got the gist and figured I would get more done around the house. I had picked up the safety rail at the hardware store and spent the half hour getting it installed. The most important part was to make sure I found the studs correctly in the wall. The angle of the rail will work wonderfully to help my FIL and I made sure to get it well fixed.

I was out fiddling with the dirt pile trying to get the plastic pulled over the top again when I heard the rustling in the leaves by the pallet shelving arms and was able to grab this Gardner snake. They are super beneficial snakes to have around and are not poisonous and won't bite, or if they do it is super mellow.

I also filled in the tire marks from the tractor spinning its tires while I got buckets of dirt.

It was about noon when we left the house to head to the farm. It is in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, seriously, middle of nowhere. The only thing you hear is the sound of oodles of birds as the farm sits within a couple miles of a wildlife refuge. I watched a flock of seagulls fly over the farm and then watched as they caught the thermals that were creating all the clouds. Without flapping they circled and gained altitude.

I wandered out past the chicken pen and as I got closer to the stand of chokecherry it was a solid wall of buzzing. As I got closer I could see the honeybees MASSING all over the flowers. The stand was a loud buzz and I was seriously looking for a possible swarm it was so loud. But no it was just the bees all over the trees.

R had the time of his life with all the animals they have on the farm. The puppy, the kittens, the rabbits, the dogs were all carried, played with, and run with. That reminds me that he REALLY needs a bath.

The pigs are pretty chill and I went out and gave them pats before they got their walks in the evening. They are show pigs for the fair so need to know how to be walked and need to be the right size so they aren't too big or too small.

S and BIL had to go vote and afterwards Chris came back to pick us up and we headed into the bar.

Prices for alcohol in this state are insanely low. Especially out in the middle of the farm land it is even cheaper. Granted some of it IS rot gut but still, like half the cost of what it is in Washington state.

We ended up back at the farm for the evening where we hung out until late in the evening. Had a good long talk with SIL and MIL and then sat around the bonfire for a while before we finally ended up heading back to town around 11pm. It was near midnight when we got back.

Today I have to put up the last two sets of blinds in the bedroom which will have them all done, I will make sure there are no other tasks needing finishing as today is our last day here before we have to head for home. I am going to try and get everyone to pack this evening so tomorrow will be an easy transition to travel.
