Veteran's Day Assemblies, Tablet, Jan, County, Co-op, Trailer, Chucking Logs, Kraken - Friday

in #hive-114308last month

Yesterday was a total pachinko day where I got nearly nothing accomplished. That was all due to the two school assemblies we had, one first thing in the morning then the other at noon. The first was at the middle school and it was a rather subdued assembly and a retired Lt. Colonel helicopter pilot gave a nice talk to the kids.

It was after 10am when we got back to the house and @stryeyz went to work for a couple hours until the next assembly. For the short time I as at home I got R's tablet setup with the screen protector and case. Without wifi there wasn't much I could do to set it up otherwise.

I've come across a cool AI that is offline. http://jan.ai has a number of models that don't require an API code. I have 6 downloaded now and am beginning to play around with them. Not exactly correct on everything with the one llama version I have been trying but I'll be dinking with the others. The shitty part right now is having to download them over my phone's connection, but the Starlink will be here Monday.

So then at noon @stryeyz picked me up and we went over to the elementary school for R's assembly. Theirs was a lot more fun as all the classes sang songs under the instruction of the new music teacher, who was J's 3rd grade teacher. She is doing a great job and is bringing the music program to a bit more current feel. We were out of the building soon after it was finished and headed back to the farm.

I got less than an hour at home before I had to go to meet the co-op truck. I parked in the normal meeting spot and noticed the notice of application sign posted on the stop ahead sign. Elk-Chattaroy road is a MAIN thoroughfare and the county has REFUSED to do any work on it for decades. It took until 2 years ago for them to do even one section way up north.

The amount of traffic that uses the road is far more than enough to justify the work and should have been done sooo long ago.

The co-op truck arrived and as always in the wet months we have the massive puddle/lake to contend with.

Back on the farm I got the trailer hooked up for the grain run I have done this morning already.

It was after 3pm and the boys had gotten home and I FINALLY got a chance to do something around the farm. I hiked up the hill to the rounds I had cut and began throwing them all down the hill. The first and lower batch was right above the base.

IMG_20241108_152146.jpg

But then I worked my way up the hill and had to throw them farther and farther. I managed to lob them over and down the hill but had to go tromping through the brush to kick them the rest of the way down.

I have a good pile at the base that can get hauled but will have to be stacked out to cure for the winter. The green branches of the firs are going to get collected today and hauled to the sheep pen for them to munch on.

I got dinner going as we watched Lower Decks then the Kraken game came on. They are on a 6 game home streak which means all stupid late games. It looked like they were going to get destroyed when they went down 2-0.

But they made a killer comeback thanks to Tanev's 2 goals and were up until Vegas tied it with a minute to go. They managed the win in OT.

Went out to soak but only stayed in a half hour since I was up early this morning.

Today is my last day before a week+ of rains are to hit so I have to bust ass and get everything done that I need to. In a while I will empty the grain but leave the trailer hooked up so I can then load the rounds and the branches to haul. I have to staple the sacks to the underside of the wood cover before the rains hit, sweep, I'll haul the old carpet to the junk pile, Darts is on for the next week, and I will figure out dinner this evening.

I always thought Spokane was more Sagebrush than forest…..
It looks beautiful, where you are !
Is this because you’re further north, does it turn to Sagebrush as you head towards Spokane?

Spokane itself is right on the border between the basin and the forest. We are to the north but east of the Deer Park basin which is open farmland. Our creek that is our property line comes off Mt Spokane about 13 miles to the east.

Sounds like a beautiful location, and you still have the forest nearby!👍😊
