Adventures In Homesteading (Day 71-75)

Hello Everyone!

The not-so-daily daily entries, So many sweltering days, Looking at more land & Winter is approaching quickly!

Alright, these entries are starting get stretched out much further than my liking... and I am unsure on how to go about remedying it. For the most part it is simply difficult to line up time for writing late in the day... when the writing tent is cool... and there is enough daylight left to still do my late day chores.

This entire adventure has been a rough one... and I guess that the writing itself is a reflection of all the turbulence. Lately, I have not had much that I am willing to write about... so there is that... but even that aside... I need to start squeezing in time for it each day.

The last several days have been rather unproductive... because as soon as it gets hot outside I retreat into the shade of the tent (and in front of my fan) where I spend way too much time scrolling on my phone. Since I am looking at other land to buy... and most likely selling the one I am currently located at... I have been giving the real estate stuff a lot of focus.

We will see how it all works out... and if the current offer that was made on my place goes through... then I want to be ready to get my next place and get moved in short order. The way the real estate market has gone nuts here... it is not looking like I will be able to get as large of a place as I currently have... but at this point as long as it provides some privacy... and some flat land... the size does not so much matter.

Anyways, I should also have a contingency plan in case none of that works out... and I am 'stuck' here for the winter... because the days are flying by and I still do not have a plan for that eventuality. I do not want to overthink it all too much... but I should probably figure out what it would take to either get a shed delivered... or just plan on camping in a big canvas tent.

There still is not anywhere flat enough to setup either that big canvas tent... or my big shop tent... so I guess that the first 'order of business' for that project would be to build a deck. Or alternatively, I could make a platform using the same techniques (and types of materials) that I used in the construction of the earth bridge that spans the gulch.

Well, I do not have much else to report at this juncture. I hope that everyone is doing well. Ta ta for now.

Just another hot summer's day!

That black locust that I brought with me when I moved sure has rebounded!

One of my black locust seedlings is getting closer to being a sapling!

It’s tough to get things done when all you want to do is chill in the shade. I think it’s awesome that you're planning ahead for winter and thinking about your next steps. I get how important it is to have a space that feels right, even if it’s smaller. Wishing you the best with the land search, and I hope everything works out for you!

Indeed it is. Especially since chilling is so important. Always gotta plan ahead with the seasons or it just gets way harder than it needs to be. Thanks for the best wishes with the land search. There are a few places that have really caught my interest plus they are not super far away. Hoping that all is well in your world and my apologies on the delayed reply.

What do you use to fertilize the black locust? some leaves look to be turning yellow, in plants that is a lack of nitrogen.

I am just using topsoil that I gathered from the bottom of the gulch during the dry season.

try putting dead leaves around them

They have been doing better now. It was from too much rain at the time.
