Sprouting seedlings of fluted pumpkin ☘️☘️two weeks after planting it.

HELLO HIVE

A few weeks back I started small farm cultivation of fluted pumpkin even with the harsh weather conditions that have made planting in the Harmattan period difficult because of how dry everywhere is and I thought that the fluted pumpkin would be affected once it was in the ground and the heat begins to hit it hard but that was not the case as most of the seeds have completely germinated from the ground and they look fresh for a plant ☘️ that was planted in a season like this and that's all thanks to the river beside the farm that has been a constant source of water for me although the river itself is drying up which was unusual for a river that supplies farmers with water 💦 for irrigation farming all through the year.

I made use of straws from rice plants that have already been harvested for mulching and this helped reduce the level of water loss in the soil so that the ground can stay wet for a day after wetting it depending on how the sun is for the day. Mulching also prevents pests and animals from eating it, Lizards have a common habit of cutting up their stems once they start growing.

I might decide to increase the cultivation and seed number if everything goes as planned and the sun doesn't fry it up before I know it.

Thank you for visiting my blog😊

Fluted pumpkin won't need serious water in it's early stage of growth, they survive well compared to vegetables spinach, these might grow slow and steadily till when the rains will come.

Wow, that's what the fluted pumpkin looks like...😀
