It is barely few days before December and once we get into the month of December we begin a countdown to Christmas. While we have barely started harvesting our rice grains, there is a lot of work to be done than meet the eyes.

We are in a hurry to complete the harvest for several reasons.
One among the most important reasons is how that animals are finding their way into the farms to eat our crops. Rather than wait for harvest to be completed before they can come to eat the remains we have cattles and goats invading farms already.

For yesterdays farm work we had to harvest the rice very close to the road side and paths where they pass drink water from the river.
They have eating off a portion of that part as it is by a foot part.

We are also in a hurry to complete this particular harvest before Christmas since we don't like having some grains of rice still hanging in the farm during the festive seasons.
It is usually difficult to leave the house and come to stay in the farms to keep guard during that period.

Myself and my siblings started the work yesterday and while some were Reaping the rice, my brother was beating the grains and yet another was sorting the grains.

For this year we lack some of the equipments we often use for harvest and that's my brother there beating the rice grains against a log of tree on the ground. We have often used an empty metal drum 🛢️🛢️🛢️🛢️ to do this task, but over the years we have lost some of these farm equipment. Neighbors farmers often come to borrow these items from us until we have eventually lost everything.

None of the work in a rice farm is an easy one, is it the reaping where we have to stay bent over for hours to cut the rice. Been a long grain rice that has over grown and all falling down in the ground, you really have to bend low to be able to harvest it here.

I left my brothers with the beating of the rice it felt more stressful for me. We are able to harvest about 60kg bag of the grains to bring home yesterday

The harvested grains been brought home almost immediately will be processed an milled so that we can have some grains for food before the week runs out.
