Hello everyone. Today I want to share with you my home garden. This garden located on the balcony of my apartment I started to created it in April of this year. I started by planting some bell pepper plants and cherry tomatoes in plastic pots and knobs. Then I included oregano, spinach, chives, and white and purple basil.
When summer arrived, the garden suffered a lot from the heat; many plants were close to dying especially the cherry tomatoes that despite being the most heat resistant tomato variety that exists, the intensity of this summer did much damage.
Bell pepper was also damaged by the high temperatures, having very low yields in those months. Here in Cuba summer is very difficult for the vegetable production, however, summer rewards us with a great production of tropical fruits such as mango, avocado and guava.
Winter is the opposite, it is ideal for vegetable production. So as October has arrived, things have started to look up for my garden. Although it is still hot, it is no longer as intense as it was in July and August. Just beginning October and I've already been able to harvest some peppers and cherry tomatoes which, along with spinach, are ideal for salads.
Oregano, chives, and white and purple basil are special as seasonings for food. Furthermore, at the end of September I was able to add lettuce plants and cachuchas peppers to my garden, species that require even lower temperatures.
I hope that as fall progresses and winter begins things will continue to improve for my home garden and I can continue to add varieties to my planting.
I also hope that the pests that are typical of summer and rainy months stop bothering me. This idea of planting on the balcony allows me to take advantage of the little space I have and gives me the opportunity to entertain myself and have vegetables for my own consumption and something else.
