A Doctor's Visit, A Life-Changing Lesson: Tale Of A Patient

in #hive-1153684 days ago

There is always the fear of learning something new so there are people who decide not to see the doctor because of the possibilities of finding out something they would rather not find out at all. I saw a movie recently, the lady heard she's at the final stage of brain cancer and she was like "If she was going to die anyways, why did she had to find out about it before her supposed death day?"

Well, progressing into the movie, she realized it was best she found out as it allowed her prepare for the worse by being closer to family and making great memories. In any case, I'm saying it's still better to go get checked up if you feel funny so you could catch up and attack any incoming illness or deal with it if it's there already. I have my own tale to tell about this.

About four years ago, I was still a student doing my industrial training in a laboratory department at a private hospital. We ran so many tests daily for the doctors to be sure what was be wrong with the patients who go in and out everyday. What I never thought about then was being one of their patient but it happened twice and the results in both changed a lot of things for me.

The first doctor visit I had was not really with an actual doctor but a laboratory technician who seem very interested in our health as our supervisor back then. I had some stomach heat that day and she suspected something but didn't say until she ran a H. pylori test, lo and behold, it was positive. I became "an ulcer patient" within a few minutes and I must say, I didn't take it well.

I got scared, worried and kept thinking of the worse scenarios that can come from what I've been tested positive of until she said something that made me relax and think ahead with a better frame of mind. She said ulcer don't kill so long you are able to manage it well so the one question in my head when I heard that was "How do I manage it well?" On my way back home, for days and even until now, I've been researching.

Like I said, it's been four years and I'm still living as well as I had been before the doctor's visit but I must say, there has been great adjustment to what I usually do before especially in terms of what I take into my system. From my researches, I've learnt about foods I should avoid and the ones I should take to manage the ulcer well. As at now, I can boast of not being an ulcer patient.

So here's to any who got the ulcer diagnosis, I changed my lifestyle in terms of what and when I eat but believe me, that did only a 40% in reducing the pain that comes with ulcer for me. The game changer for me was going for natural spices, especially cloves for clove tea. I've not had the ulcer crisis since I started the recipe of boiling cloves in water and drinking it regularly.

I bet I'd have kept wondering what was wrong with my stomach if I never allowed myself to be tested that day. I learnt something new about my body system, got knowledge on how to handle it and now, I live even much better knowing that, I've got nothing to fear in that regard. And I do hope my story will be of help to you reading.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I am glad you allowed yourserlf to get tested which has allowed you find better ways of dealing with the pains you had prior to the testing. Indeed, going for check up and finding out something is wrong with you can be very scary. But as they say, "prevention is better than cure" and it's better to face your problems head on.

I hope my comrade's experiece will motivate the rest of us to get check ups. 🙂

Haha yeah! I've learnt that it's much easier and enough to prepare and learn when we go for checkups early enough.
Thanks for stopping by Comrade 🤗

It is quite common to find some diagnosis from routine investigations. Ignorance is bliss truly but not when our health is concerned. A quick intervention often slows the progression of diseases.

An endoscopy remains a diagnostic tool for peptic ulcer however, lifestyle modification like you did is quite helpful. Congratulations on healthy living.

Coming from a doctor, indeed I've learned better not to stay in ignorance for too long 🥹
