A healthy diet ensures a healthy future. - Health Prompt 5.

Healthy eating these days is challenging. Carbohydrates, gluten, processed food, surgery drinks; we have everything in our diet. Sadly, it's tough to eat organic and non-processed food the way food industries work now.

What to do? How can we ensure better health for our future generations?

Challenges I face:

Being a mom of one grown-up and one almost adult, I didn't face so many challenges 15/16 years ago as now I see. But their addiction to quick snacks is what pisses me off. It's hard to get them off from sugary drinks and packed snacks.

My son even got overweight when he was 10/11 and had back pain. We have to forcefully impose healthy diet and physical activities to have a grip on the situation.

I got some real-life experience on how to influence children to follow a healthy diet.

  • First, we need to remember it's another type of addiction, so it will take time to go. As parents, siblings, or caregivers, we should be more patient.

  • Second, we need to start with us. Only telling them to follow a good diet will not motivate them and keep them consistent. Make a plan and follow that, if possible all members of the family.

  • If the kids are too little like under 10 years, then try to make the food fun and interesting looking. But if they are grown up, try to make it delicious. Don't just present bland and non seasoned food.

  • Don't take away all your favorite food at once. I used to give them snacks as a reward if they did well in school, etc.

  • Make them understand, it's not for you but for their own good that you are trying. Give them time to adjust to the new eating habit.

I have seen many parents become very forgetful and want to establish a healthy diet from day one. This way, the children don't make themselves onboard with the plan and sneak in different junk food.

Go slow, make them understand, make interesting meals, and every once in a while, take them out for dinner or let them have their favorite snacks.

Rather than making a plan for a few months, make a plan for the year. Remember, consistency is the key here. Our brain needs time to readjust the chemical, so don't rush.

I hope we will build a better society with healthy future generations by implementing a healthy eating habit.
