Familia

¿Cuál es tu concepto de Familia?

¿A qué personas consideras tu familia?

Family

What is your concept of Family?

Who do you consider as your family?

Do you think that if someone shares your DNA, genes, or blood, they are part of your family or are they just relatives?

What is the difference for you between a relative and family?

Family has constantly evolved over time and across cultures, although in some cultures the concept of Family remains unchanged. In the Western world, Family comes in many forms and nobody has the right to define what is or isn't a family. I happened to belong to a small family with many relatives, but I also saw families consisting of a mother and her children, or a father and his children, as well as families formed by grandparents and grandchildren or aunts and nephews, and why not, of individuals and their pet kids.

Family is a social construct that depends on culture, eras, and even trends. But for me, the concept of Family is that of a group united by bonds of affection, camaraderie, and respect. It's not necessary for them to be genetically connected.

That's why I have only considered my parents and siblings as family. And even though I have numerous relatives, they have not earned the status of family.

As I mentioned, just because you share genes, descend from the same individuals, automatically makes you part of a family. Family is essentially made up of feelings.

The difference between relatives and family, for me, is the level of emotional ties that bind them. Many people are fortunate that all their relatives are their family, but others are not, as they are simply people related by shared surnames and genes that give them certain common characteristics.
