Women in eastern culture are synonymous with work at home, even so; not a few wonder women in my area become heroes for their families.
Lhokseumawe was a small town once; The majority of the people here depend on being fishermen for their livelihood. Living in coastal areas of course makes them accustomed to utilizing the natural resources around them as a source of livelihood.
Cunda River; is a river that separates the city of Lhokseumawe from the mainland of the island of Sumatra which makes it part of the Aceh- province of Indonesia.
On the river, in the afternoon or in the morning, local people depend on their economy by looking for natural resources; shells, oysters and various other seafood. The catched it for the economic value on them.
Not only men, women also do the same thing; they go down to the river for a fairly decent amount of time--ranging from 4 to 5 hours and only to get enough catch to meet their daily needs.
If in developed areas; Modern tools have become mandatory to carry when fishing and so on, these wonder women rely on their simple hunting instincts--staying in the river water for a long time and wearing only gloves, trying to catch the movement of the shells in the river water.
Not only that; some of them make this work a routine that is often done everyday just to meet their daily needs. There are also those who make the catch as a side dish for the daily food menu.
Today I spent the afternoon to see the activities of these cool women. I took a number of pictures using a Sony A6000 camera with a little touch of Adobe Lightroom editing. Hope you enjoy it 🙏
