Peakd to Ecency automatic address redirector extension

in #hive-1198262 years ago
For more than a year I preferred to use Peakd as the main front-end to Hive but that started to change recently when I started posting more and I started using ListNerds. Before I was never a fan of Ecency for some reasons that I will not describe here, I considered Peakd to have a clean interface and other additional tricks that are not available on Ecency.

So, recently seeing so many people on ListNerds using Ecency made me change my mind and decided to give it a go consistently every day. The main reason I'm doing this is because of the Ecency points that I can accumulate for free and then I use them to boost and promote some of my articles. Now, in order to get those points I need to read and interact with every article or post only on the Ecency interface, which is not a problem when I'm checking directly for replies or I'm checking my feed, but as I'm using ListNerds every day and I'm reading a lot of mails, in most cases the links provided in those mails are for the Peakd front-end so I first open the link and then go to the address bar to replace the word "peaked" with "ecency" and then reload the page. At some point it gets tiring and many times I even forget to do it.

Then I remembered that at some point I was using a Peakd extension that every time when an Ecency address was loaded, Peakd would automatically change it to its own front-end. Now I thought, there must be a way I could do this the other way around, and it didn't take me long to find it because I found out that there's not only one but maybe 10 or more browser extensions that can help me do that and they are available for both Firefox and Chrome-based browsers. I just went with the first one that came up and it is called REDIRECTOR

After installing the extension what you have to do is hit the button that says "Create new redirect" and then set up your redirect, I've done mine this way:

I wasn't sure what difference is there between "Example URL" and "Include pattern" so I just ended up filling both with the same data. This redirect goes for any opened page that contains "https://peakd.com/*" and everything that comes after ".com/" will be held in a variable that's going to be used on the "Redirect to:" field. In my case, it is "https://ecency.com/$1" where $1 represents the stored value from the above Peakd address. I won't be touching any other advanced options as there is no need for now.

Now every time I'm reading mails on Listnerds I just make sure that the extension is enabled and it won't matter if the linked post has a Peadk address as it will automatically be redirected to the Ecency front-end of the same article.

I could do the same for other addresses as well but for example, if an article was posted through the CTPTalk or LeoFinance front-ends, I prefer to use those when commenting or voting as those bring in some benefits as well.
If I want to use Peakd or some of its tools and stats I can with the click of a button disable the extension and I'm back to "normal". I hope this is useful info for other people that think the same as me as the Ecency points are of good value for the "little fish" that we are.

Hey @bradleyarrow, @jongolson what front-end are you mostly using?

Oh wow! That is awesomeness! Thank you for sharing. I shall try this out!

I'm already using it for 2-3 days now, it works like a charm, and it is much easier to go through the Listnerds mail.

Thanks for stopping by!

That's good to know. I'm going to try it out today after going through all LN mails :)

Awesome. That is super helpful!!

I'm glad I was able to put out something potentially useful.

Awesome. It has saved me so much effort as you know I am tracking my activities in Ecency too. !LUV

Very interesting! Does it have a peakd or ecency to leofinance?

You can do the redirect with any website address you want, this is not specially made for Ecency, you could redirect google.com to duckduckgo.com if you want...

But you could encounter some problems is you want to redirect all peakd or ecency to leofinance because if an article is NOT posted on leofinance then it won't be shown on their front-ent.

But you could encounter some problems is you want to redirect all peakd or ecency to leofinance because if an article is NOT posted on leofinance then it won't be shown on their front-ent.

Yep, I know. I want to use Leofinance more for commenting, but I don't like changing the interface all the time.

Would be interesting to know what things you don't like or what things could be improved.

This is one reason I love ecency, the team always want to listen and improve and they're so damn nice :-)

Thank you so much for the "encouragement" vote! Maybe I'll do a checklist and then write an article.

Anyways I'll give you a quick example, Peakd notifications show me the value of received votes, in Ecency it shows only the percentage so if I have on a post 200-300 minimal votes, those more valuable can easily go by unseen unless I go to that post and manually check the votes.

30% means nothing, it could be 2 cents or it could be $20.

Another one, maybe an option to change the theme to a darker color, the current available dark theme is ok but not dark enough, and even now when writing this reply, the editor background is still white.

Also, the main fonts, on Ecency look a bit skinny and tall, maybe a bit too disproportionate. I'll just post 2 screens for comparison, much easier to explain this way:

Thank you!

  1. Notifications, we have our own internal notification service that stores only percentage. While hive.blog and peakd uses hivemind notifications which shows value of vote but you only see higher votes, not all votes. We will think of ways to integrate both...
  2. Theme, Fair point about dark theme, we have got some feedback on that as well. We will be releasing update soon with those improvements.
  3. Fonts, we did quite a lot of researches on what font is more easy to read and doesn't strain eyes when read on smaller screens like mobile devices and combination we found works best was currently being used. We will see how to improve it further, maybe theme changes on 2. will help this as well?!

Looking forward to hear more this kind of feedback.

About notifications

but you only see higher votes, not all votes

This is what I want, there is no need to see 100-200 votes where most of them can be automated and where the value is so low, only the more important votes count.

About the fonts you are right, when I'm using Ecency on mobile it does look good, and I'm getting used with the PC version as well, it just that it looks a bit off, like too spread or uncared for, but that's no biggie...

Looking forward to hear more this kind of feedback.

Why not create a special post where people can comment exactly with this, feedback and ideas for the Ecency app?

WOW this is pretty cool extension! Definitely I must try it!

Found on LN

Yup, at some point I got tired of manually changing the address so I'd be able to use Ecency and get them points, something had to be done, and it's very easy as well.

Thanks for the LN vote and for stopping by!

I saw an introduction how to do this by the Kittygirl in Terminal, but never tried it by now. Seeing how often I change the link now being on Listnerds, maybe I should give it a try.
Thought you wanted to steal my ecency link idea? didnt see an ecency link in your mail ;-)

Your idea, I only used it once in a previous mail, I'm always in a hurry and keep forgetting, maybe I should build a template to have it handy.

Great information, @drlobes.
I prefer PeakD as well, but this will definitely be useful to get the Ecency perks.
Thanks for sharing.
!CTP

On Ecency you get points for anything you do from posting to commenting or voting. With those points you can boost your posts, example:

You could make those 300 points in about 2 days or so, depends a lot on your activity.

Thanks, @drlobes
That is good to know.

This is so helpful!

That's a good finding friend. I do make use of decency too as the points are attractive

I don't like the Ecency interface that much, but those points for sure are valuable. Thanks for stopping by!

This is definitely a useful post, Dr. I am bookmarking it!

Thank you, and it's very easy to do, and that not only for Ecency, it can be done for any other types of addresses that you would need a redirect for instead of manually doing it every time.
