The katang-katang flower or horse's tread flower is a flower that is often found on beaches and seashores in Malaysia and is now spread in various regions such as Indonesia. This flower has a long scientific name, Ipomoea pes-caprae. Even though it has a scientific name that is difficult to pronounce, this flower is very easy to recognize with its distinctive characteristics.
Katang-katang flowers have a striking color, usually bluish purple or light purple. This flower also has an interesting shape, with wide petals shaped like a funnel. Apart from that, katang-katang flowers also have long stems and thick leaves, so they are resistant to strong winds and sea waves.
Apart from its attractive physical characteristics, katang-katang flowers also have important value in coastal ecosystems. This flower is one of the beach plants that can grow quickly and protect the beach from abrasion. The roots of the katang-katang flower are able to hold the beach sand from being eroded by sea waves, thus helping to preserve the beach as a habitat for various types of living creatures.
Thank you for visiting, friends. Hope you are entertained.
