Hello, music zone friends! This is @samuelstifen, welcome back to my channel. Never get tired of seeing me and hopefully you guys can enjoy this humble offering of mine.
Music zone is an amazing event and an event that provides many lessons and better development as a musician. I can get to know each other's works from other countries and also share works from my country, because that's what I'm looking for here so that we can understand each other's works, and I'm also proud to be able to participate so far in becoming part of music zone.
Hive Music Festival week 109 round 1, I performed a song titled "Gereja Tua" (old church)by panbers
"Gereja Tua" is a very legendary song in my country, this song was created by the band Panbers which originated from Indonesia.
Panbers was founded in 1963 in Surabaya, consisting of four siblings, the sons of Drs. J.M.M. Pandjaitan, S.H, (Alm) with Bosani S.O. Sitompul. They are Benny Panjaitan as lead & rhythm guitar, keyboard, piano, lead vocals and leader, Hans Panjaitan on lead & rhythm guitar, keyboard, piano and vocals, Doan Panjaitan on bass, keyboard and vocals, and Asido Panjaitan on drums and vocals, On January 25, 1969. Since then the name of this band in Jakarta is Panjaitan Bersaudara officially abbreviated to Panbers. In its development, the band's formation changed and increased since the 1990s with the arrival of Maxi Pandelaki as bassist, Hans Noya as lead & rhythm guitar, vocals and Hendri Lamiri on violin. And this band stopped working in 2020.
The song I performed is a song with a very deep meaning. The song "Gereja Tua" tells the story of the experience of the vocalist, namely the late Benny Panjaitan, during his school days who remembered an old church next to his old school in Palembang. The lyrics of the song talk about a couple in school who were once very romantic, but over time the relationship failed.
Although this band has disbanded, their songs are still popularized by young Indonesian musicians, and many Indonesian musicians cover this song with amazing arrangements. Hopefully the song I performed will be a beautiful part when you guys listen to it.
And maybe that's all I can say this week, I'm very proud to be a part of this, hopefully the team participating here will stay enthusiastic, hopefully this event will run smoothly, thank you.
LYRICH-GEREJA TUA
masih kah kau ingat waktu di desa
bercanda bersama di samping gereja
kala itu kita masih remaja
yang polos hatinya bercerita
waktu kini tlah lama berlalu
sudah sepuluh tahun tak bertemu
entah dimana kini kau berada
tak tahu dimana rimbanya
hanya satu yang tak terlupakan
kala senja di gereja tua
waktu itu hujan rintik-rintik
kita berteduh di bawah atapnya
kita berdiri begitu rapat
hingga suasana begitu hangat
tanganmu ku pegang erat-erat
kenangan itu selalu kuingat
waktu kini tlah lama berlalu
sudah sepuluh tahun tak bertemu
entah dimana kini kau berada
tak tahu dimana rimbanya
hanya satu yang tak terlupakan
kala senja di gereja tua
waktu itu hujan rintik-rintik
kita berteduh di bawah atapnya
biarpun saat ini kau tlah berdua
itu bukanlah kesalahanmu
ku hanya ingin dapat bertemu
bila bertemu puaslah hatiku
bila bertemu puaslah hatiku
ENGLISH VERSION
Here's a translation of the lyrics into English, trying to capture the tone and meaning:
Do you still remember back in the village,
Laughing together beside the church,
We were still young then,
With innocent hearts, sharing stories.
Time has passed, long ago,
Ten years have gone by, we haven't met,
I don't know where you are now,
Lost in the vastness of life.
Only one thing remains unforgettable,
That twilight by the old church,
The rain was falling softly,
We sheltered beneath its roof.
We stood so close,
The atmosphere was warm and cozy,
I held your hand so tight,
That memory I always hold dear.
Time has passed, long ago,
Ten years have gone by, we haven't met,
I don't know where you are now,
Lost in the vastness of life.
Only one thing remains unforgettable,
That twilight by the old church,
The rain was falling softly,
We sheltered beneath its roof.
Though you're with someone else now,
It's not your fault,
I just want to see you again,
To see you would bring me peace,
To see you would bring me peace.
