The homestead just keeps providing

I know this may not even post by the wee late hours of Friday but I'm trying. My off grid homestead sometimes doesn't cooperate. I had internet issues today so this vlog is a little late but you know what they say...better late than never. At least I think that is what they say anyhow. I'll claim it as my excuse today.     I'm a bit south of you, and in the same general zone. Mullein grows all over here, and I have some coming up in the gravel parking area right outside my door. I'm sure Yew grows here, but I've never seen a conifer with little red berries on it. I'd be astounded if I did. I hear that because Taxol is very difficult to manufacture the Yew became quite endangered most places it grows, as foragers selectively took it out for the bark to sell to pharmaceutical companies. I have neither ever seen turnips in the wild. Looks like the former owner of that property scattered seed around and they naturalized, which is awesome. Deer are focusing on my turnips right now, and I have just thanked my neighbor for chasing them off the turnip greens a few minutes ago! I am surprised they haven't grazed them into extinction on your place.

      Interesting about the taxol. With what I read saying it takes so many trees to be able to treat one person I thought that might be a perfect opportunity for our corporate pharmaceutical Giants to try to synthesize it like they do every other medicine.

      I was a little surprised the deer haven't eaten all the green off the turnips myself. I think it may be because most of our property is pretty overgrown this is one of the few spots that isn't and my dog patrols are pretty regularly. Definitely was a nice surprise to find out they were turnips.

      As for the property yes I wake up everyday and pinch myself that this is where I now live. Can't wait to really start getting it set up the way we want.
