The Healing Power of Milk: Overnight Oats Edition

Over the past few days, milk and I have become inseparable companions on my journey to recovery. From morning till night, I've been chugging milk, seeking the calcium my fractured ankle so desperately needs. Today, a follow-up with my doctor brought some relief news: everything seems to be on track. So much so, that he's postponed today's x-ray to next week.

So, what's on the agenda for today? I’ll be sharing this new breakfast routine, which is heavily reliant on our star ingredient - milk. I present to you: Overnight Oats. A dish that divides opinion - some adore it, while others can't quite warm to it. Here’s the simple lineup of ingredients you’ll need:

• Rolled Oats
• Whole Milk/Full Cream Milk
• Fruits (Your pick, really)
• Chia Seeds
• A sprinkle of Cinnamon
• Honey (If you fancy)
• Yogurt (Entirely optional)

Let’s kick things off with the fruit prep, you can use any fruits that you like, I’ve set my sights on mango. After peeling and dicing it into bite-sized cubes, I set it aside for its grand entrance later on. Next up, grab a jar or a can with a lid, and pour in your desired amount of rolled oats. For me, half the jar hits the spot, translating to about 6-8 hearty tablespoons.

Now, it’s time to jazz it up. Sprinkle in the cinnamon, chia seeds, and add as much yogurt and honey as your heart desires. Today, I had to forgo the yogurt and honey – my pantry’s run dry, but they’re top of my list for my next grocery run.

For the finale, enter the diced mango on top of the ingredients, and drench the oats in milk until fully submerged. With a gentle stir to ensure the milk mingles beautifully throughout, it’s time for the fridge to work its magic. Give it a solid 12 hours to soak and meld, and voila! Your nourishing, milk-infused breakfast is ready to greet the day with you. Hope you enjoy this recipe!

Been doing this for years , but stopped for 2 years during MCO. Now I need to restart again more often.

I used oat milk or yogurt instead of plain milk to avoid too jelak 😅
Adding greek yogurt will jazz up too if you have less flavour

Yogurt, I'm nvr a fan of it dunno why haha 😓, maybe I'll try different milk like almond or soy haha

I like the almond one. Go for the I think it is called "Good taste" (from Australia). The unsweetened version is nice.
Soy has this strong soy aftertaste at times haha.
Yogurt wise. I just slowly got used to it, by starting the flavoured ones. You need to find good ones. Local ones taste fake.

Oh I absoluty love overnight oats. Especially in summer, when I just don't feel like cooking and eating the warm version.
My latest favourite is a chocolate one: you mush ripe banana (for the sweetness), add oats, chia, ground flax seeds, spoon of cocoa powder (not chocolate, use the real stuff), bit of vanilla, tiny pinch of salt (can be skipped) and milk of course, or any nut milk. It's like eating chocolate desert for breakfast :)

Sound like another good recipe to be try out haha 🤤, gonna try that one out

I am curious if you liked it :)

That just so delicious. I might going to "pinjam" your recipe. Hehehe.

Btw, speedy recovery and take care ya.

Haha thanks, try it out, maybe you can come out with some other recipe and share it over 🤗

Sure will. Normally i just had it with milk. Really plain n no taste at all. 😬
