This is my first time posting in this community since I’m not much of a cook, but I do make my own food about 95% of the time. In fact, for almost two weeks now, I’ve completely cut out sugar from my diet and haven’t eaten out once. I could almost say I’m on a diet.

Today, after a little over an hour of intense training at the gym, I felt like I could eat rocks. I must’ve burned a ton of calories, and my body was screaming to replenish them. Probably some kind of survival mode that keeps us fat… Probably.

For some reason, I had a massive craving for shawarma. No idea why, but I just felt like eating one. Problem is, you can’t find a decent shawarma spot around here, and like I said—I’m on a diet. So I told myself, screw it, I’m making my own.

So, I grabbed some shawarma pita from LIDL, sliced up a pretty hefty potato, and threw it in the oven. I didn’t want to fry it since that would make my shawarma way less healthy.

Next, I had some leftover grilled chicken from lunch, so I just warmed it up a bit in a pan and then "gently arranged" the pieces on the pita—because presentation matters, right?

I had some pasta sauce that was already spicy enough to give this thing a kick, but I wanted to add more sauce—something healthy and low in calories. So, I mixed about two full spoons of 2% fat Greek yogurt with salt, two drops of olive oil, and some crushed garlic, and boom, there was my sauce.

Once that was done, I added some salad from the fridge, a sliced pickled cucumber, and the oven-baked potatoes—which turned out tasty but not packed with dirty calories. And just like that, my homemade, healthy, and damn good shawarma was ready.

When I decided to go hard mode with my diet, I thought I'd be stuck eating boring gym food, but turns out there are plenty of healthy and tasty alternatives out there.

Overall, I’m pretty damn proud of my shawarma. Next time, I’ll throw in more sauce and load it up with extra meat, but if you're looking for a healthier take on fast food, here’s an option for you. Enjoy!

@tipu curate

Thanks. I hope to make the second one a bit tastier. Will have to make a few tweaks here and there and see what I get.

That shawarma was deluxe and not only healthy but also incredible. The touch of baked potatoes and the sauce with that touch of spice, gave it the delicious point. Congratulations

Thanks
