There are lots of food and beverage businesses popping up right now. Especially to take advantage of opportunities for young people who like to show what they consume, on social media. This could be a very good opportunity for culinary business owners.
To be honest, as a content creator, I also like exploring the newest culinary places. Which has a place with a stunning design, and of course food that makes me remember that place.
Currently, it can be said that local businesses have to compete with business owners from outside the region, especially from abroad with large franchise businesses.
Indeed, it cannot be completely blamed. Foreign business owners usually have more capital and are more willing to explore unique themes for these culinary venues. Meanwhile, local business people will have difficulty competing due to minimal capital and limited knowledge about things that today's young people like.
Even so, I often visit local vendors in my area. I usually do this when I really want to enjoy food, not looking for places with nice or unique designs. Apart from offering cheaper prices, local vendors also have taste characteristics that are closer to my life.
Like this time, I visited an outlet that sells traditional desserts. The crazy thing is that this place has been open since I was a kid. Yes, that's crazy, right?
Even though it is just a simple place, this place that sells traditional desserts has many stories that are always remembered by local people, including me.
Long short story, previously this place was just a small cart. My late father often took me to this place after I came home from elementary school. I even still remember what my father bought me first.
In the past, my family didn't have enough money to even buy the traditional desserts sold in this place. So, a long time ago, my late father only bought me a slice of watermelon. Yes, just a slice but in the past I was very happy with what my late father could give me. :)
Back to the present, I can buy traditional desserts here. I ordered "Es Teller", a type of iced coconut milk menu that is filled with various types of jelly, avocado, also boiled banana, jackfruit, kernels, and sometimes with a durian fruit option.
The pink color of this dessert comes from pink syrup but has coconut and pandan leaves flavor. Overall, this dessert is very sweet but also refreshing which is suitable for serving in our area which always has hot weather, even during the rainy season.
Honestly, I like this dessert because it has durian fruit topping. My fav one. As I've gotten older now, I'm starting to not like things that are too sweet. Meanwhile, during my childhood, this dish was my favorite. It does not matter. It's not about the dish being bad. It's just a matter of our perspective and way of thinking that has changed.
Apart from iced desserts, I ordered another menu. This menu is still my favorite, always. Spicy fruit salad, a.k.a rojak. Fruit salad served with spicy peanuts with soy sauce.
We can see various pieces of fruit used for this spicy fruit salad. We can buy just fruit without sauce.
This place hasn't changed much. Just expanding the seating area for visitors. Because there are more and more visitors and fans of the dishes at this place.
Just a simple place, like places that sell street food in general. But, I grew up in the same area as this local business so I have lots of sweet stories about this place. Like this sweet dessert. :) not been forgotten.
