It's called soto, a local pride which is a comfort food choice when you don't have an appetite.
There are certain times when we lose our appetite, especially during rush hours, and get tired. But our bodies need food intake for energy. The solution is to choose certain foods, including comfort food, which is easy to get in cafes.
That happens to me often. Lost my appetite and I'm worried about my stomach problems. When I travel with my husband for certain business. Fatigue makes me reluctant to eat. But I also have to love myself by paying attention to my food intake.
Like today, I'm quite exhausted. I think I just want to sleep right away. But yeah I can't do that yet. My husband stopped the car at an old restaurant that had been around for a long time. It's been there since my school days.
Called WARUNG BAMBU I AM, with a typical Indonesian restaurant feel with a semi-outdoor concept. Luckily it didn't rain tonight in my area. So, make sure it's not raining if you visit this place.
This restaurant is quite comfortable and cool, with a garden concept. Even though it is in the middle of the city, it is quite comfortable because they have lots of big shady trees.
It makes me feel like I'm eating in my back garden. Not noisy.
What I like about this place is that the food served can make me able to finish my food, even when I don't have an appetite. They provide traditional Indonesian food. So, that's quite helpful.
I ordered a menu called soto. At first glance, it looks like Thai-style green curry. With coconut gravy, with mung beans sprouts filling, also with various fillings that can be chosen according to our taste such as chicken, beef, or ribs. For me, I chose ribs soto.
This menu is served warm with rice. Sprinkled with fried red onion and local crackers. What I like is the warm, creamy, and savory sauce typical of coconut milk.
Yes, coconut milk gravy can help you eat to increase your appetite. Eating warm gravy is quite comfortable, right? How about you guys?
I always order a variation of the soto menu if I'm on the go. It feels like I don't need extra effort to finish my food. Just a simple food with delicious heavenly gravy, and fragrant spices that whet your appetite.
Apart from that, of course, green chili sauce is provided for those who like spicy food, the average Indonesian palate. And most importantly, the soto menu is easy to find in cafes, restaurants, and even night street food vendors.
For the price? No need to worry because this local food ranges from $1.5-$2 depending on the filling choice we choose. Well, that also depends on the restaurant. If it's a fancy restaurant, the price will definitely reach $5.
For my meal this time, I only spent $1.5. It's really worth it for dinner that makes me excited again to fill my energy.
Have you ever enjoyed a dish similar to soto? vegetables served in spiced coconut milk gravy with a rich taste of spices. Super comfort and filling in your stomach. :)
