Cultural differences present an amazing variety of culinary delights.
The fermented rice is formed into balls and served with a sauce of pink coconut milk.

There are always things that catch our attention when we travel to other areas, (foreign areas) that we have never visited before. One of them is related to culinary. We are indeed very close to culinary because our needs are about food. So when we visit certain areas, it is certain that the first thing that catches our attention besides the scenery there is about the culinary.

This time I found a unique food that I have never encountered in my own area. It's called RICE TAPE. This dessert in English is called fermented rice. This is relatively new for me because usually in my own area we make fermented food with the type of glutinous rice instead of the type of rice that is usually used for daily consumption. The use of this type of rice for fermentation will of course affect the final texture.

Tape Nasi (fermented rice) is a traditional aceh dessert which is usually served at big events such as weddings and major religious events.

What's interesting to me is that the fermented rice comes in a variety of colors. At this time I see pink, purple and white as the original colors of this dish.

Another thing that caught my attention was, of course, the presentation of this fermented rice by using sweet sauce. Usually in my area, fermented glutinous rice is served without any sauce. In addition, it is also served wrapped in banana leaves. So the existence of cultural differences will definitely affect the way this food is served.

The sauce used to serve this fermented rice comes from coconut milk and also a pink syrup. The final result of this syrup is a beautiful pink color.

The sensation of the fermented rice that comes from the Aceh region is not so hot inside the body when compared to the fermented glutinous rice that comes from my own area. So this is indeed good to eat for people who don't really like the hot sensation that is produced when eating fermented glutinious rice in general.

The texture of this fermented rice is very soft. Here I am trying to scoop fermented rice balls. It looks so soft.

Well, that was about a traditional Aceh dessert in the form of fermented rice formed into balls and served with pink coconut milk made from local syrup. Have you ever seen or have you ever enjoyed a dish similar to the traditional dish that I just presented this time? I hope you guys have a great weekend. See you on my next food blog!
