Fake Pizza Hut Pizza

in #hive-1205862 years ago

Today I'm going to share another creation of mine, from the Fake It, Till You Make It category. This time I tried to fake a pizza that I saw years ago in TV. There was a Pizza Hut commercial that certain stations were airing years ago. There was no Pizza Hut in my city back in those days, so all I was left with was the commercial.

A week ago somehow I remembered the commercial and I thought let's try it out as now I have proper pizza trays, round ones and I can recreate the one from the commercial. Yeah, so much naivety in one place 😂.

The name of the pizza I saw can't recall, but I can describe it to you. The main idea was wrapping cheese pieces, cubes in the edge/crust that melts during baking time and when you bite the pizza, you get a very creamy, almost running cheese.

So the mission was to find out how much flour I need for two equal sized pizza and the other, to try to recreate the Pizza Hut pizza, that I saw years ago.

My last attempt was 500g flour for 3 trays, but I got 4 pizzas of different sizes. So this time I thought 250g flour should be enough and tried to figure out how much yeast, olive oil, salt and water you need.

What you see on the photo is 250g all purpose flour. Logic said if for 500g pizza it is recommended the use of 7g dry yeast, it's a no brainer how much you need for half. I had a pack of dry yeast opened, so I thought why not play it cool, place the bowl of flour on the scale and just drop 3.5g yeast and this is where things started to get complicated. I did it gradually as once it is mixed with flour, there's no way of taking it out. slowly, slowly I added the pack and the scale showed nothing, was sitting at zero 😳

No problem I said to myself as I thought the amount of yeast has to be enough. So I moved on and added 2 teaspoon of salt.

Next, was the olive oil, of which I thought 1.5 spoon would be ok. This spoon is not so deep, it's pretty flat actually.

20220907_124821a.jpg

150ml water was enough t make a good dough. I covered the bowl and let it rest for 40 minutes in a warm place.

20220907_134614a.jpg

After the dough doubled in size, I divided it in two and started to roll it out. The pizza tray is round and my dough looks like this. Is it round? Far from it but don't expect perfection from me in this category.

20220907_134634a.jpg

I tried and saw it covered the tray, so it was good enough for me. I needed the dough a bit bigger, you're going to see why.

20220907_134808a.jpg

Again, fake it till you make it. Can you see where I cheated? I can 😂

20220907_135131a.jpg

The second one was a bit better, but still not round.

20220907_135234a.jpg

However, it covered the tray perfectly.

20220907_135430a.jpg

The rest was easy. I spread the pizza sauce on both relatively evenly.

20220907_135836a.jpg

Then came the cheese. I wanted small cubes and even though these cubes don't look small on the photo, trust me, they were small.

20220907_140124a.jpg

After spreading them on the dough round, I covered that part with the dough.

20220907_140217a.jpg

20220907_140311a.jpg

There was no meat this time as I wanted to keep it simple, so I chose red bell pepper and sweet corn, which I love.

20220907_140606a.jpg

Cheese can't be missing from the top, so here it is.

20220907_140616a.jpg

Baked for 20 minutes, at 190C.

20220907_144023a.jpg

20220907_144159s.jpg

And this is where you can see the problems, or that I did not make it.

20220907_144422a.jpg

This is the past, where the cheese should be running out of the dough. Instead you can see, there's no cheese inside, just a caramelized something, that was cheese once.

20220907_144638a.jpg

This was empty for example, there was no cheese here 😳

20220907_144931a.jpg

The dough was pretty thin, but a bit to greasy. I suppose one spoon of oil is enough.

So, in conclusion, I faked it but did not make it. I'm not saying it wasn't good, but I need fine tuning. Never will I ever use cheese at the edges, let Pizza Hut do it, it's not for me. As about the dough, 250g flour is perfect, with 3.5g yeast, 150ml lukewarm water and 2 tsp salt.

I believe the pizza you are trying to recreate was called “The Stuffed Crust”. When I worked at a Pizza Hut about twenty-five years ago, the cheese in the crust was mozzarella string cheese. We laid them end to end so the crust had one line of cheese rather than chunks. Also, make sure you seal the folded over dough as well as you can. Your cheese may have just leaked out from the crust. Otherwise, a very good attempt that you made.

Wow, I would have never imagined I would get a comment from someone who has worked at Pizza Hut. Thank you so much. How did you come across my post anyway? 😃

Yes, type of cheese may have been the problem as well, wanted to write about it and forgot.

I tried to seal the crust as much as I could but there was not enough crust 😳

Next time I have to fake it better 😂

I saw the post in my feed when I was over in Ecency. It was pizza and I love pizza so I started reading And realized you were faking Pizza Hut. I might try your dough recipe. I use one now I found on the internet and it gives me a nice thin crust.

I'm open to suggestions 😊 A good crust is highly appreciated. Please drop thr link if it's not secret.

Here it is: https://www.emmafontanella.com/50-cal-pizza. If you don’t have self rising flour, the video has measurements to compensate. I slide the pie with toppings off of a cutting board with corn meal directly into a pizza stone that I put in the oven.

Sometimes I use salsa instead of a pizza sauce.

Thank you for the recipe, I've bookmarked it for the future. It's interesting to see they are using milk, instead of water. I'm going to try it out definitely as I'm curious now :)

I don't have a pizza stone yet, but it's planned, so when the opportunity comes along, I'm going to buy one.

Thanks for the info and have a nice weekend 😀

Yummy 🤤😋

It is indeed.

In as much as you didn’t make it, it looks good and cheesy. Hopefully next time ud make it😂😂

Thank you but next time I'm going to make my old recipe and stop trying to fake anything. But knowing myself... this is probably not true 😂

😂😂😂 I can relate

Beautiful

Haha! You did try your best. Maybe this pizza baking thing isn't for us. I've tried re-creating one I saw something ago too on the hive food community. It turned out very bad and couldn't even be eaten so I had to rest my case. It's not bad to keep ordering from those who do it perfectly. Lol

I would say pizza baking is for everyone as it's easy, but when you go rogue like I did, this can happen. I wouldn't say it was a disaster, but I've done better.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. It can be frustrating, when you waste raw materials and time as well, just to throw away everything. Better luck next time :)

You bet! It was indeed frustrating. I would try again soon when I'm done giving it a rethink. Lol

Excellent thinking as trying is the only way to succeed.

Indeed it is

Just seeing it makes me want to eat it

I would send you some, but there's none left :) Maybe next time?

Vaavvv it is reaaly good. I think I will try. Thank you.

God luck with it and enjoy :)

Lol this reminds me of the first time I cooked myself. First year university! It’s going to be surprising for some people people that I didn’t know how to cook until then. But it was because my dad doesn’t like having guys around the kitchen.(something passed on to him by his dad, I think). I struggled a lot in my first year university because of this. Almost everyone I knew knew how to cook but me.

Anyways, when I just started cooking, I had my friend @nimatu give me a basic rundown and I wrote the amount of tablespoonfuls of salt, cups of water and cups of rice I used every time I cooked. I did this I think for a month, until my intuition was good enough to suffice from experience.

You did a great job though. A little more practice and your neighbors will ask you to start running your own pizza hut.😂😂

Never in a million years and not for all the tea in China. Nope! I cook for myself and family and that's all. I know first hand how a restaurant works and no thanks! I value my freedom more!

As about you not knowing to cook, I think some religions are also not allowing men to do housework, including cooking. Amish for example.

If there's because of religious reasons, I can understand but otherwise it's just stupid. The more you know, the better for you. If you know to cook you can not only save money but also eat what you want, whe way you want and when you want. It's good to hear though that you can cook now. It's a huge advantage.

Lol I don’t really understand how restaurants work so I suppose this means it’s a slaving job.

I don’t think my religion prohibits men from cooking or anything like that. Myself, I think it would be crippling to not be allowed to learn to cook because you’re going to need it even if not for school like in my case, but for when you live alone.

I don’t know but I feel like if you’re not growing the ingredients for your food yourself, buying ready-made food is a lot cheaper than cooking around here. Vegetables and food ingredients are very costly around here these days. So much that many people would agree that you’re better off just buying your ready-made whole meals.

If you're a cook in a restaurant, you have no evenings, no weekends, no holidays as that's when people go to the restaurant and organize events, so no thank you! I value freedom more.

People stuck in the past think cooking is for women only and find it shameful for a man. This however is the craziest thing as a good part pf the biggest and most famous chefs are men. Village people usually think that cooking is not for them. I'm always saying those who can't make a sunny egg or an omelette, the simplest thing to eat, deserve to die of hunger.

This matter is different in any country or continent. I like to cook my meal as often as I can because at least I know what I'm eating. Ready-made food can be full of things you want to avoid, not to mention it may not be to my taste. But that's just fussy me :)
