A Simple, Tasty, Grab-To-Go Breakfast, Tamago Sando

Hello my dear friends…
Today i am gonna share a recipe from a food i’ve been wanting to have a taste since forever. I keep seeing this food in anime, manga, japanese drama, japanese movie, basically everywhere. Sadly, i can only see them there in my screen. Its kinda weird that there’re so many japanese restaurant opened in my country but the one i’ve visited so far never have this snacks/dish as their menu. I dont understand why though, because i thought that this dish is pretty popular. I’ve been looking around for this one in japanese restaurant and its always leads to my disappointment. It’s supposed to be a simple dish to make, the breakfast grab to go type of food, but it was never occurred to me that i should make it myself. Maybe, because of the before marriage me is the non cooking type of person. I rather bought anything i want to eat rather than making them myself. The me now is the opposite of it, i love making food especially the one i have never taste before. The thoughts of making your own food for your family is heartwarming for me. Its also fun to be able to eat something i cant eat because i cant find someone selling them.

This is something called Tamago Sando, have you ever heard of it? Tamago means egg and i guess sando means sandwich, so this is an egg sandwich. I heard that this is a favorite food to buy in Japan’s convenience store. I will try to make this tamago sandwich for the first time and guys, there’re parts i messed up which i will share later through this post. Failing at one step is something hard for me because i get disheartened immediately. But, since i want it so bad i still go and try to make it works.

Ingredients

Bread

Eggs

Vinegar

Salt

Mayonaise

Blackpepper

How To Make

First, lets boil 3 of the eggs for 10 minutes. Put one tablespoon of vinegar and two teaspoon of salt to the boiling water. The vinegar supposedly will help us to make it easier for us when we crack the eggshells. For the salt, it was supposed to be able to help us to retain the egg so it doesnt crack when we boil them.

After 10 minutes, turn off the heat and put the boiled egg to the iced water so it will be cooled down. I only put them for 20 seconds before i started cracking the egg. The first egg i cracked was a fail so i was panicked and put the two egg that was not cracked yet to the boiled water and boiled them again for another 5 minutes. I prayed that its a success this time and i put it in the iced water again for 30 seconds before i started cracking them open again. Sadly, it was still not fully cooked egg but it was so much better than the first one. It was as we can see in the pictures i attached how bad it is. It was disappointing for me because i failed the time when i want a half cooked boiled egg, now i get the half cooked boiled egg when i dont even want it. Life is full of irony like that, i can only laugh and try to make the best out of the situation.

Now, we have to separate the white and yellow part of the egg because we will treat them separately first before we united them again.

For the egg yolk, we need to turn them to a mushy texture like this. I was just pressed them all in a grind motion with a fork. I think that since my egg yolk is not firm, it was easy for me to mush them.

For the egg whites, we just have to cut them in the shape of small dices. Mine was like this.

Back to the egg yolk, we now put the seasonings into the egg yolk and mixed them. The seasoning that i used are 3 table spoon of mayonaise, 1 tablespoon of sweetener, 1/3 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of blackpepper. Mixed them all together.

Take the egg whites again and put the seasoning and egg yolk mixed on top of it and started to mixed them all again.

Since i want to restore it till lunch and now is only breakfast time, i put a plastic wrap under the slice of bread like this. In my opinion, using a plastic wrap like this is better to shaping our tamago sando better so it will not be a mess too.

Put the eggs mixed on top of the slice of bread and put another slice of bread on top of the mixture and its done. So easy, simple, fast to make.

Its taste so good i think that this is gonna be a food that i will make at least once a week from now on.
