Yesterday, I had the pleasure to visit Lucky Bak Kut Teh and dine at their place. I went there more than a week ago to try the Pig's Tail Soup for the first time. It was a good dish but it had a lot of bones in it that made it challenging to get all the meat out.
On this lunch, I ordered a bowl of Bak Kut Teh which has the same soup as the Pig's Tail but with pork ribs as the choice of cut. The price is the same as the pig's tail but it has more meat and it's easier to handle 😅.
I chose to have a bowl of rice with it because it's more filling than noodles or you tiao. Also because I used to eat rice during lunchtime, it helps me go through the afternoon without feeling hungry until the time of dinner.
A good reason why I keep going back to this place is because of the quality of the meat that they serve. In some Bak Kut Teh places, this specific part of the ribs will be priced as premium while here in Lucky is priced at the same level as the basic level.
This type of pork rib is a lot easier to handle while using the chopstick. It's quite heavy but with the spoon in my left hand, it's manageable to hold it while taking a bit of the meat.
What made this special was the soup! Every Bak Kut Teh has their distinct taste but the flavors are the same. It's the Chinese herbs that gave it a flavor that can't compare to other types of basic soup. It also has plenty of garlic and peppermint powder that gives it a spicy and garlicky taste that I like.
It may seem like a simple dish but there's a lot to say about its taste and flavor. This is the kind of dish that I would go to whenever it feels chilly or it's raining. It's a bowl of comfort and it will instantly make me feel better whenever I'm feeling down.
I will certainly be back to Lucky Bak Kut Teh shortly because of the good quality dishes that they are constantly serving to patrons like me. See you soon!
