Good Evening to All My Hive Friends!
How are you all doing? I hope everyone is well. It has been a few days since I last connected with the Hive platform. The reason is that I had the opportunity to go on a spiritual journey to Anuradhapura from my village. During this trip, I came across a vendor selling lotus stems, and I purchased some. This is a unique vegetable in the city where I live, and it usually reaches our village only once or twice a year. Lotus stem is a highly nutritious ingredient and is also a part of Sri Lankan traditional cuisine. Today, I decided to prepare a flavorful salad using this special ingredient.
Let’s dive into the recipe to see what we need and how to prepare this delicious dish!
Required Ingredients...
🍀 Lotus stems 100g.
🍀 A finely chopped onion.
🍀 A thinly sliced tomato.
🍀 Two green chillies, finely chopped.
🍀 1/2 teaspoon of pepper powder.
🍀 1 teaspoon crushed chili powder.
🍀 Salt as needed.
🍀 2 teaspoon of Maldives fish.
Method of making....
First, take the lotus stems and peel off the outer skin carefully. Wash them thoroughly to ensure they are clean. Once cleaned, slice the lotus stems into thin, round pieces. This will make them easier to cook evenly. Next, soak the sliced lotus stems in salted water for about 5 minutes.
While the lotus stems are soaking, finely chop the onions and green chilies. Slice the tomatoes into small pieces as well. Set these aside, as they will be mixed later to enhance the flavor and freshness of the salad.
Take a pan and place it on medium heat. Add a coconut oil and allow it to heat until it shimmers. Meanwhile, mix the sliced lotus stem pieces with a pinch of turmeric powder until they are well-coated. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the lotus stem slices to the pan. Fry them until they turn a golden-brown color and develop a crispy texture.
Transfer the fried lotus stem pieces to a separate mixing bowl.
Add the following ingredients to the bowl:
Sliced onions
Chopped tomatoes
Sliced green chilies
A pinch of chili powder
A pinch of pepper powder
Salt to taste
A small amount of Maldive fish flakes (optional, for added flavor).
Mix all the ingredients thoroughly, ensuring the flavors are evenly distributed.
Your delicious and nutritious lotus stem salad is now ready to serve!
This dish pairs well with rice or can be enjoyed as a light snack. Try it out and enjoy the burst of flavors!
