It was a drizzling cold night when my family and I were driving around searching for a place for dinner. Neither my children and I had any idea where to go for dinner. We let the main boss decide. He drove around and we ended up at a new 'mamak' shop, newly opened at a condominium. We thought there would not have any parking for us, but we were lucky to get one just nearby the entrance.
Qudrat
'Mamak' restaurants are very popular among us Malaysians, young and old. We love to hang out here with friends and families, mainly because the food is cheap and delicious. Mamak simply means those of Tamil-Muslim background. And most 'mamak' nowadays do serve other cuisines too like the Western food.
This newly opened mamak is situated at Nadayu63, Ground Floor, Jalan Melawati, 8, Taman Nadayu Melawati, Taman Melawati, 53100 Kuala Lumpur.
We arrived and I was fascinated by the pink chairs and pink tables. Just the correct colour for me, my favourite colour. Haha! Even the boys teased me. "Mummy, do you own the mamak?" Lol...
It was neat and clean, considering it just opened few days ago. Spacious enough to cater for those who stay here at the condominium and enough for public too, at the moment. It is also very well-ventilated.
Menu
We took some time to look at the exhaustive menu, was wow-ed by the huge amounts of food in the menu.
We saw only two chefs, we did wonder how could the chef cooked all types of cuisines. I only took a few pages of the menu, there were more pages actually. We decided to give it a try. My husband did suggest maybe not to order from the western side but my boys really felt some pastas.
Food we ordered
Eldest son ordered a chicken chop with fries. When the chicken chop came, we thought it was some sort of upgraded chicken nuggets but the waiter told us it was chicken chops. Haha. Such cute small chicken chop. Nothing to complain as it was cheap. But the name was deceiving, could have name it something else.
The chicken chop was two small pieces, and my eldest son was not full, so he ordered a beef bolognese. At least the bolognese was acceptable although really, this mamak's chefs needed to improve their skills in cooking Western food.
My youngest son ordered Mac and Cheese which was slightly fake style, loaded with margerine and one slice of cheese. But he loved it. Oh welp!
The portion was small too, so he ordered another 'roti' cheese which was Indian flatbread with cheese. The dough they used to make the roti was undertaste. The whole thing was dry. But my youngest son still loved it. Oh welp welp!
I ordered a 'roti telur' (Indian flatbread with egg) and a 'roti pisang' (Indian flatbread with bananas. I totally forgot to take picture of the banana one. Only took the egg one. Here you also could see how small the chicken chop was.
Since the dough for the roti was not so nice, the roti telur turned out not so nice, of course. Dry and undertaste. Thank God for the curry dipping sauce which helped to give some flavour. The roti pisang was delicious though, all thanks to banana and sugar which gave some moist to the roti.
My husband ordered a ghee thosai. And surprisingly the thosai was good enough. He was not full, so he proceeded to the Nasi Kandar section to choose some dishes.
Nasi kandar
Nasi kandar is rice with ingredients chosen by you, loaded with curries of your choice too. Nasi = rice. But my husband did not feel like eating rice, so he choose chilli squid and masala beef.
Here were a variety of dishes to choose from. There were fried fish, curry chicken, rendang chicken, curry liver and gizzard, fried bittergourd, etc.
Wow, both the squid and beef were very delicious. Now we know, they are the best at cooking their own food cuisine. Next round, we will come just for the 'nasi kandar.'
Drinks
The drink, we ordered a 'teh tarik' (pulled milk tea), iced syrup (rose flavor) and Iced Milo. The drinks were alright.
Suddenly, when we were about to finish eating, the boss went around table to table to inform us that all the food tonight would be at 50% discount because he felt like doing it and only for tonight. Yayyy! Our total bill for so many food ordered was only RM30. What a lucky night! Kudos to Qudrat! Hope they improve their roti section and western food section.
