Do you like spicy? spicy taste divides the people of this earth into three categories. First, a human who likes spicy food, a human who cannot eat spicy food, and a human who likes to eat spicy food but cannot tolerate the spicy taste, then he repents not to eat spicy food anymore but the next day he eats spicy food again. For Asian people, like me, the third category is commonly found in our social and social communities.
Speaking of spicy, I was involved in a discussion and debate with an American I met while at a local coffee exhibition in my city. According to the American, there are only four basic tastes on our tongue, namely sweet, salty, sour and bitter. For him, spicy is not a taste but a sensation felt by our tongue and body. Our story about that spicy taste, started from the difficulty he had to find non-spicy food on his journey in Indonesia. I think the Americans were just unlucky to get the right food on their first visit to Indonesia.
If I think about it, the Americans have a point. Indonesian culinary cannot be separated from the spicy taste that bites our tongues. All dishes and dishes use chilies, even though after learning chilies were brought by the Portuguese from South America when the Portuguese were doing business in Indonesia. I also like spicy taste, especially when enjoying spicy food when the weather after rain is like an obligation for me.
Seblak Juarah – Home of Spicy Culinary
A few days ago, it rained heavily in my city and made the air cold. After the rain stopped, my stomach became very hungry and I really wanted to enjoy a dish of hot and spicy broth. I also went to Seblak Juarah, one of the local food outlets or restaurants that are popular with spicy lovers in my city.
Seblak Juarah is located at Beo Street no. 78 Medan Sunggal District – Medan City. The location of this food stall is very close to my house. It only takes five minutes by motorbike to reach this place. The location is in a residential area and uses the terrace of the house to run this culinary business. The furniture used is also very simple but every day, many people, especially students and young people, come to eat at this place.
One of the reasons why people like to come here is because the price is affordable for students. Apart from that, the food menu choices are spicy and delicious and we can also order drinks with dozens of refreshing drink menus. I ordered Seblak Mie for my afternoon meal, and ordered hot tea for the drink..
What is Seblak?
Many people, maybe not familiar with this food menu. Friends, you don't need to feel inferior, because there are also many Indonesians who are not familiar with Seblak. For information, seblak is a snack or food originating from Bandung, West Java. Seblak became popular and can be found in many other cities in Indonesia, due to the spread of the diaspora of immigrants from West Java who went to other cities.
There are different interpretations of Seblak in Indonesia. However, I prefer to describe seblak as a soupy dish with spicy spices dominated by kencur. The spicy sauce will later be given toppings such as crackers, noodles, eggs, meatballs, or according to our taste. Like my order, I ordered Seblak Mie Seblak which consists of a bowl of spicy sauce accompanied by instant noodles, chewy crackers, meatballs and tofu.
If friends glimpse this food bowl? I'm sure you can already feel the spiciness on your tongue. Yup, this food is very spicy but also very delicious. I sip one spoon of broth, the spicy taste immediately hits my head. Strangely, I didn't stop eating it, I even gorged myself.
This seblak sauce is also very suitable with instant noodles. The chewy texture of the noodles and the various toppings used make us always addicted to eating them. I also ordered extra toppings because I was still hungry. So, this is the story of my spicy culinary experience this time.
