This is an easy recipe. I realized one thing as I keep sharing these recipes here. Most of the Indian cooking is a one pot meal. Today's dish is what we call back home 'usli'.
Ingredients:
1 large onion diced
2 green chili
1 and a half cup rice
curry leaf - few
black chickpeas / garbanzo bean - I have used less than half a cup here, since that is all there was in the freezer. You can use even 1 cup of black chickpeas. These are boiled black chickpeas.
freshly grated coconut - 2 tablespoon
salt
water
Roast the rice on medium flame till it changes color. This should take about 4 - 5 minutes.
Once the rice has changed color, keep it aside. Add oil / ghee in the kadai (I have used coconut oil), add mustard seeds, once it splutters, add onion, green chilies, and curry leaf. Once it becomes translucent add the black chickpeas and coconut. Stir for a few minutes. Add salt. Add 4 and half cups of hot water. Then add the rice. Cover and let it cook for 8 minutes on medium flame. And then cook on low flame for 10 minutes.
